A Polish archbishop has said the Catholic Church must not accept anti-Semitism within its ranks, calling it "irrational behavior". Archbishop Jozef Zycinski of Lublin spoke to reporters during a conference in Jerusalem focusing on the relationships between the Polish Catholic Church, Jews and Israel. "In the case of Lublin ... we emphasize that [the Jews] were present in our life, in cultural solidarity. It is part of our cultural heritage," he said. Some anti-Semitic incidents showed a "generational problem" and a problem of "social frustration" more than a cultural phenomenon, he said. He cited as an example the issue of Radio Maryja's director Tadeusz Rydzyk, who has been accused of anti-Semitic remarks and insulting the Polish president.
Even the younger generation of Redemptorist priests were sceptical of Radio Maryja's message, said Zycinski, noting that the ideas predated the Second Vatican Council and the followers were a minute percentage of the population. An anti-Semitic idea "shouldn't be accepted, but there are groups where it plays a role." For "the elderly it is a form of psychological support to defend Polish identity," he said, adding that Father Rydzyk was "'anti-' in general." He said that today dialogue between Catholics and Jews was a "much stronger trend" and that in a few years there will be a cultural transformation. The younger generation is pro-dialogue."

No C, you misunderstood me. I only try to point out that Holocaust was planned and controlled by Nazi Germany and it is 100% German Nazi leaders fault. They manipulated a lot of people in doing the dirty job - mostly the Jews themselves but also individuals from other nations.

There should be no pardon for individuals who assisted them yet noone should forget about the real authors of the Holocaust - Germans. As for Holocaust - there is a lot of propaganda and misconception about how it looked like in Poland. Both Jews and Poles were badly manipulated by Nazis at that time. In Warsaw just after Poland was conquered Jews were treated better than Poles - where Jew was beaten Pole was shot. For that reason most part of Jewish organizations sided initially with Germans and assisted them with creating Warsaw Ghetto, creating Jewish Police and Jewish pro-nazi intelligence services. These got badly corrupted and were later used to collect and load transport to Auchwitz, fight Jewish underground etc. Poles had very very little to do with Jews after they were separated in Ghettos and the mass killing begun. As everywhere there were criminals who profited on Jews in the most immoral way, yet ALL underground organizations, including extreme right-wing vowed for helping Jews and hunted (killed) collaborators who assisted Germans in Holocaust. I can provide you with some articles from extreme right-wing underground press 1941-45, it says more or less "Jews are bad but what Germans are doing to them is inhuman - we have to help Jews and stop this horror!"

The common misconception in the West is that Poland was anti-Jewish during the holocaust, and that it is still the same. Both of these seem to be false, there are no more Jews-haters here than in any other European country, and for sure less than in these with big muslim communities.

I would say that there is perhaps a revival of Jewish heritage in some places in Poland.

Well.. Can you tell me why exactly do YOU think anti-Semitism is a problem in Poland and how Poles participated in Holocaust?

I live in Poland and mostly know what people think about Jews. I also read some memoirs and history books about Holocaust recently and my conclusion was that Polish input is blown out of proportion while Jewish input is falsely considered marginal. My conclusion is also that yes - there was a significant number of Jews who assisted in Holocaust. It was shocking for me to find out and i consider it the most sad and horrible thing in the Holocaust story - that Germans succeeded to manipulate so many Jews into assisting them that Warsaw Ghetto was supervised by less then 100 Germans, 700 Ukrainian and Latvian Auxilaries and 2500 Jewish Police+500 "Jewish Gestapo". It was Jewish policeman who pulled Jews out of their homes and loaded to trains to Aushwitz. There were no Polish auxilary units in Ghetto.

I just wonder why so many people in Israel and the West think that Poles helped to prosecute Jews. Can you please tell me C.MAXIMUS? I'm honestly curious.
