I like movies that take place or are about events outside of the norm of what movies they usually make. (If that makes sense.) Another one with Marines from an under-presented time frame is "55 Days at Peking."

Ha, the end is awesome where he salutes the guy.

Never heard of "55 Days at Peking", will have to check that out.
Theyre supposed to be doing a new one about Tripoli, with Ben Kingsley, dont know whats going on with it though.

Too bad this world has become far too insensitive that we can't solve problems like this with the worlds knuckleheads.

why the maroccans just look to the marines and wait until they fire?

Sometimes Hollywood...

Because they weren't expecting the U.S. to actually attack, but rather more posturing and bluff.

I loved this movie and would watch it every chance I had when I was a kid.

The movie is a great watch. Jingoistic and a bit of a parody on the trivialization of war. No right or wrong, just the rule of the jungle.

I'm going to have to watch this movie in it's entirety, from the little clip I saw, it seems like one hell of a fine movie!

Thanks for posting this Scrim!

Ahhh yes, directed by John Milius. Of Red Dawn and Conan the Barbarian fame. Always been a fan of his work.

Also had a hand in HBO's Rome a couple years back.

Nice clip!

"55 days at Peking" with Charlton Heston is just awsome. Another great movie, although it does not involve the U.S. Marines, is "Zulu", just epic.

Because it is all the director's fantasy. Historically the US Marines did not fire, they just entered the palace and held Bashaw under house arrest without fight.

I guess it is back to that famous quote, "Any connection between actual History and a Hollyweird movie is purely accidental."

To be fair, Milius just wanted to make an adventure movie and used a real event as inspiration. Was never supposed to be historical drama.

Saw this clip when I was doing riot control training. I guess my instructors point was that formations and precision was an intimidating image to any opponent.

IIRC in the actual incident, the Marines didn't land at all.

Yeah... I loved how that worked in this movie. You could hear them before you could see them, and all that.

Yeah... I loved how that worked in this movie. You could hear them before you could see them, and all that.
During the EU summit with GWB present here in Gothenburg and the riots that followed back in -01 I saw a pretty good example of that.

I was working at a café not far from the worst rioting when I heard clamping of alot of boots and some other really loud noice. After a while around forty or so Police Officers came down the street on two lines running and banging their shields with their batons. It looked, and sounded, impressive as hell.

I wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of that.
