I'm bored so I've decided to put up one of those sumint vs sumint thread.
Todays sumint vs sumint is spies!
We're all aware of James Bond with the nifty gadgets, cars, women and predictable bad guys. Some of you may not had heard of Harry Palmer. Played by Michael Caine, he's the thinking man's James Bond.
I'd have to vote for Harry Palmer, much grittier then James Bond.

Harry Palmer is pretty much a normal guy. He was in the British Army and black mailed into becoming a spy or go to prison. He isn't special as he is useless without his glasses.
Good qoute though when flirting with a women.
"Do you always wear your glasses?"
"Not when I'm in bed"

Harry Palmer...first I was thinking of the guy in Twin Peaks, Laura Palmer's singing, psychotic dad (actually I don't remember if he was named Harry but...) and I thought, that's an odd poll! :cantbeli:
1960s, Dr. No, From Russia With Love Bond, I have to go James Bond. I'll even give him Goldfinger and Thunderball. After that, Harry wins. Fewer movies so less chance of Suckage on Harry's side.
I've read the Bond novels. Are there Harry Palmer novels?

Cool. I read Deighton's Game, Set, Match series back when I was in Uni. I may have read one or two others (went through an espionage fiction phase for a summer). I remember enjoying Game, Set, Match. I'll have to keep my eyes out for Ipcress Files.
Thanks.

I'd think they've gone out of print when I looked on Amazon.
I'll try to find an online version.

Urgh...yeah, that was a scary guy. I had nightmareas after I saw the episode when he killed Laura's cousin (I was 12 years old at this time). :(

These are things that make me like boys... (and/or men)
1) intelligence
2) sense of humor
3) looks (but intelligence and sense of humor count for more)
4) a sexy accent doesn't hurt....
5) having a big gun that he will let me shoot doesn't hurt anything either...
6) he should be kind to children, animals and me

Harry Palmer. Caught a bit of The Ipcress File the other night and he's just so much cooler IMO than Bond (Caine is super cool anyway.). Will have to see if they do the films on DVD...
