A federal grand jury is investigating how a company that advised Jefferson County, Alabama, on bond deals that threaten to cause the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, did similar work in New Mexico after making contributions to Governor Bill Richardson’s political action committees.
The grand jury in Albuquerque is looking into Beverly Hills, California-based CDR Financial Products Inc., which received almost $1.5 million in fees from the New Mexico Finance Authority in 2004 after donating $100,000 to Richardson’s efforts to register Hispanic and American Indian voters and pay for expenses at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, people familiar with the matter said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation asked current and former officials from the state agency if any staff members in the governor’s office influenced CDR’s hiring, said the people, who declined to be identified because the proceedings are secret. Richardson, who is President-elect Barack Obama’s designate for Commerce Secretary, has a staff of at least 30 people.
“They’re looking at everything related to CDR,” William Sisneros, the finance agency’s chief executive officer, said of the FBI probe. “They’re just trying to evaluate all the relationships to see what CDR was doing for the money.”

Wow, Obama has not even taken office yet and Rahm Emmanuel and Bill Richardson are already being investigated. Judgment to lead?

Bill Richardson is the epitomy of corrupt politics and he seems to think he is more important that he really is. New Mexico, under nearly eight years under his stewardship, is still the poorest state in the union, rampant crime and political corruption that would make Illinois green with envy!!

I've lived in NM for most of the last 22 years and I have no idea what orifice you just pulled all that out of. With two exclamation points no less.

The economy here has grown under Richardson. We are not the poorest state. Infrastructure has improved greatly. Crime's always been bad, that's nothing new or unique to Richardson, but it was worse in the 90s. What, if anything, do you base the corruption statement on?

Hmm. Ok, where do I start? Lets see. Ok, Richardson blew a budget surplus made under the previous Repulican admin. He based his 2008/2009 budget on sky high oil prices only to see those prices take a tumble resulting in a record budget shortfall which in turn has caused a state wide cut in services and a hiring freeze. Local governments can no longer depend on state assistance for local projects because there is no money!

Then, he blew untold millions on a train system which most people arent going to ride anyways. Lets not forget appointing the now convicted felon Manny Aragon as president of Highlands University (talk about giving the dog a bone). The man has no scruples and will easily stab a friend in the back if it helps his political career. The sooner this waste of life leaves NM the better for NM.

How about the part where you said NM was the poorest state in the union?

It's a tough economic climate everywhere right now.

Unlike the federal government, NM can't run a deficit. Unexpected decline in revenue = unexpected decline in spending.

Doesn't change the fact that the economy grew and tens of thousands of new jobs were created while he was in office.

Then, he blew untold millions on a train system which most people arent going to ride anyways.
Over a million people have ridden the railrunner. It's expected to double now that it connects to Santa Fe.

Lets not forget appointing the now convicted felon Manny Aragon as president of Highlands University (talk about giving the dog a bone).
Aragon's scum for sure. Was he under investigation when Richardson appointed him?

Example?

The sooner this waste of life leaves NM the better for NM.
Most of us think he's done alright.
