Fahrenheit 9/11 gets help offer from Hezbollah

Samantha Ellis

The Guardian

The controversy over Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 just won't go away. The film, which is being advertised with the strapline "Controversy? What controversy?", has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America, meaning no one under 17 can see it. Distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films, opening the film next week, are appealing against the decision. The rating came partly because the film shows images of US soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners, images Moore says he had long before the scandal erupted. He told Associated Press he kept quiet because he thought he'd be accused of "just putting this out for publicity for my movie".
Anger at Moore is building up, too. Pro-military lobby group Move America Forward is campaigning to "Stop Michael Moore from profiting in his attacks on America and our military"; Michael Wilson is making a documentary called Michael Moore Hates America; and the website www.moorelies.com is out "to expose America's fakest pseudo-muckraker".

Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates, the film is being offered the kind of support it doesn't need. According to Screen International, the UAE-based distributor Front Row Entertainment has been contacted by organisations related to the Hezbollah in Lebanon with offers of help. All in all, Tony Blair must be relieved that Moore is not going to make a film about him; Moore rebuffed the rumour in a message on his website headlined: "Sorry to scare you, Tony. Michael Moore was just kidding."

Perhaps Hezbollah offered to bake Michael Moore cookies. I hear they make excellent cookies over in Lebanon. I also hear Michael Moore likes cookies a wee bit too much.

Cookies! Feed my face cookies!

Ok they're hotdogs. Same thing.

My main beef with him is that I always see him with a UCLA cap on. He's staining the reputation of my college, and he didn't even go here! Does anyone know why he likes UCLA so much? Its disrespectful to people like me who are earning their right to wear their UCLA clothes by actually studying hear and putting up with the professors.

Micheal Moore has a way of putting his side of the story and somehow make the point sound even and unbias and people forget it is probably the most one sided face to a point ever.....

If he took help from them, then he should be able to experience the "prison abuse" first hand.

I truely HATE Michael Moore as well, but he 'earned' his hat because he had $20. You sound like a Marine now going on about how a piece of cloth has to be earned. It was for sale and he bought it.

I make money, but I don't do it by decimating another persons beliefs or falsely accusing millions of people of being responsible for welfare, child care, poverty, the national debt, environmental lapses, and I could go on forever. Dude, he's on the attack. How much of the proceeds from this piece of cinematic history are going to charity? Believe me, I live in Hollywood, the kinds of people that support MM have NO CONCEPT of what the country is really about. Now this is no attack on anyone here who supports him, or you personally, just saying, Kid Rock has more of a concept of it than Susan Sarandon. Cuz he's been to Afghanistan and Iraq. She's been to a Veggie store today.

I am not a MM-phile but I have read his books and watched his T.V. series. I don't know how much he does for his cause in "reality." Maybe these movies and such are his idea of contributing. None the less he might really F#ck up Bushs day and thats what I am looking forward too! :slap: :slap: :slap:

1)Never called you a MMphile.
2)That's just it, nobody knows even people that read his books and follow his films. It just seems shady, he writes checks with his mouth that even his fat ass cannot cash.
3)I wish no ill will to anyone affiliated with him.
4)What has he ever done directly to help anyone except accuse others of wrong-doing?

You guys obviously dont like the guy, but when he makes any sorta headline someone's always put a post up about him then theres 8 pages of bashing afterwards. You are losers hahaha get a life rofl

Besides if you havent seen the movie dont bash it (until you watched it all), I'm sure from there you can form your own opinions on what you seen.

Hey, I dislike Michael Moore but the truth is he shares a similar opinion of current event and leaders of this nation with a fairly large chunk of American society.

Are you going to hate them as well? Try to arrest them? Put them into camps?

Come on now...

You may not like what they say, but they have JUST as much a right to say it as anything you might say.

That is why Michael Moore, whether you love him or hate him, is part of the American reality. He is a business man and an enterntainer, just like Rush Limbaugh. And like Rush, he usually ends up preaching to the choir. His documentary is going to do little to change public opinion JUST as much as Rush will change it, because the people that believe it ALREADY believe it.

So with that said, please continue your rants about being unAmerican and spouting the hate, because its silly and well...pointless.

I saw Michael Moore on Letterman last night, and he made some intresting points, such as how come when all planes were grounded in the US during 9/11 Members of the Saudi royal family, and members of the Bin laden family were given White House clearence to leave the country by plane?

Could it have been the 1.6 Billion that the Saudi Royal family has given the Bush Family over the years? :cantbeli:

He made some other good points but I'll leve that to others to post.

Man, I love this one. Its been answered a dozen times over. Not some great mystery. Everyone SHOUDL know who authorized it too...and I'll give you a hint, it was not Bush. :)
