How common are these uniforms?
Its just that these were used by the US Army Agressor Platoon until the late 1970s when they managed to get Soviet Uniforms & equipment.

Those are M1951 field jackets and trousers, they're tough to find in good shape and large sizes.

Yeah, they dyed them a real cheezy Bluegreen. Not to popular. When We played Opfor it was usually with OG-107 Fatigues with Epaulets added for the Shoulder Boards. They also had a thin plastic "Soviet" Helmet that fit over the Steel Pot Liner.

oh I thought itīs a new us uniform. I heard that there is a new type of uniform, especially good for urban warfare, which has elastic parts and so on... both jacket and trouser. US soldier told that, but he also said itīs pretty expensive. Probably itīs something commercial. Sorry for going off topic.

Once in Okinawa my USMC company was designated as OPFOR for another BLT that was doing their MEU workup - everyone got OD utilities and OD mechanics coveralls. In 1997 we went to the NTC to be light infantry OPFOR, and we wore Chocolate Chip desert cammies.

Dude... I was OPFOR at NTC in the summer of '97. I remember you Marines at the motor pool.
My battalion went in October '97 to help fight the 3rd ACR. I got out the next month, so I no longer even had a squad - just me, a radio, another Marine, and an Army PFC with a tripod mounted TOW that we set up in the back of my raggedy ass Humvee. I didn't even have a windshield, and tried to talk the Gunny into giving me an M60 so i could put the bipod legs on the hood and bungee it in the cab. Real western desert, 1942, LRDG style... ;)
We drove around looking for tanks to mess with, hiding in wadis, popping up to snipe at them here and there... It was very exciting. Once the other Marine and I took on an OH-58 that was looking at something a lot bigger and more noticeable than two grunts on foot. I guess e got the pilots' MILES gear unless the bird had it set up too - he flew off a few hundred meters, landed, and one of those referee helos came and landed nearby to talk to him.

Good story James. We had a similar helo encounter in AK. We (E/C 1/60 were defending a mountain top NIKE site from 4/9 Manchus and were being harrassed by cobras. One of our 60 gunners ( A guy named Fender that we called Bumper) and I, hid behind some huge boulders and waited for him as he sort of slowly coasted up the side scanning for targets. We popped up when he was right in front of us and fired a long blast straight into the cockpit. We were on his push and could hear him denying the kill, but an eval bird sent him home. It was awesome. One of the most fun times in the field.
Here's CJs aggressor uniform.

Back in the 50s and 60s the Army had a special OPFOR uniform. They were still available for use at TASC in some places clear up into the 80s. The uniform was dark green and had eplauttes on teh shoulders as well as an OPFOR nametape. There was also a plastic helmet that fit over a helmet liner. It had a large dorsal ridge like WWI French helmets.

One of my fonder memories of being in the Army is when I went to JRTC with a local aviation battalion to provide security/TRAP/etc. We were chillin' at a FARP about halfway through the exercise and just after dawn we got attacked by an Mi-24 and an Mi-8. It was awesome. The attack knocked out a few vehicles and Blackhawks, but the more serious casualty was when my squad leader got pissed off, threw an M60 with a hot barrel at some idiot PFC in the platoon. 'Twas funny. Knocked out a tooth and caused a nice welt on the dude's face.
One of the dudes in my squad had shot down an AN-2 Colt the first day of the exercise too, though I wasn't around to see it (I was on a recon to a new FARP, he was chillin' on our stolen deuce and a half with the .50).

nopers, but I just remembered another opfor exp. We went to USMA to provide BRM, and then participated as OPFOR in Viking Thrust. They issued us Desert BDU's, I dont know if anyone has ever been to that part of the country in August, but we glowed in that stuff. There was no tan anywhere, they could see us coming from a mile away. Plus they put us in fire teams vs entire platoons. Pretty freakin funny when we would win.

We used a Psg. wearing a rainbow afro wig, Paisely shirt and shorts as a Local in one scenario at Camp Shea's MOUT site. The other Psg. wore Choc Chip pants and Polypro top and disappeared in the brush . Your right in the summer you stick out in all the greenery the brush there
Beating the cadets in Tactical STX is really like swishing a Bloody kitten around a shark tank though.
My Best OPFOR was at Hood. We wore Private purchase Tiger suits, and snuck up on a 60 crew alseep. Took the Barrel off and launched into the woods, cut their TA-312 phone line and followed the wire to the CP.
Add one Grenade Sim under the canvas, and you have complete and utter chaos.
Second best was at Drum in 2000. Around 0230 we snuck up on the 27ths Forward Airfield and BSA. One team cut through the wire and took a Guntruck (Crew asleep) and went running amok while Tursi's team took out the Blackhawks and Kiowas with Vipers.
Watched through -14's while some female ran to a Foxhole and jumped in and get Buttstroked by the dude already in it. He thought she was OPFOR.
A real great rick was to sneak into a Perimeter and fix a game caller unit to a tree trunk up high. Set it for 0300 Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child at full volume every day.

@ drum, that was against A/D units?
That deal @ usma is a joke. I did almost get blow'd the f up by some tnt on an island. Literally, it was TNT. We had an OC come screaming down the hill to get out of there, we got in the water and it blew the F up. Kinda funny. We also got one of the cadet's birds to land for us, victory!

The Island would be near Camp Shea from your description. Was there a Pipeline about 4 ft off the ground running along the access road to the highway?
Great thing about duty there was the Barracks at Buckner were up on Concrete pillars and Our patrols found garbage bags under the Barracks. Filled with 30 Rd. Magazines, Ohh happy days.
Every 60 days (10 Days QRF, 10 MEVA, 10 Stoney Lonesome, 10 Thayer, 10 Washington gate, 10 Museum) we went into 10 days of training. My Psg, laid on some range firing for us. One of which was an M203 range. Instead of Orange chalk rounds they gave us 216 HE rounds for 30 dudes, and 13 Live claymores to boot, fun time. We ran 1/1 Infantry 500K over budget in 9 months.

Normally, you do time in a line unit (see: Normal) then take a PCS to Ft. Polk or Ft. Irwin. (U.S. Army). I went A/D then went to the reserves and it was unit close to me. On A/D, some units are sliced out to OPFOR on a periodic basis. It's good times.

You can also PCS to an Opfor unit on your "dream sheet". If you're an 11B and you tell them you want to go to Fort Irwin, Fort Polk or Hohenfels, chances are you'll end up in an Opfor unit out there... if anyone pays attention to your dream sheet.
Otherwise, it's pretty much random chance where you go.

I found a Woodland Blackhawk Longgun Drag Bag on a Rooftop in Baghdad. and brought it home. You wouldnt believe what collector nerds have offered me for it. I was even told NOT to wash it as they prefer the Iraq Dirt still on it.
At a Militaria show some clown tried to sell me DCU shirt with sleeve pockets as Navy Seal Issue, I told him I had 12 just like it in the trunk. I thought he creamed himself there and then.
