Was in the local army/navy store, noticed a rather unusual rucksack, there's 2 of them for sale, and next to them were Everest backpacks, and the usual ALICE rucksacks...ok this one is different, its not a CFP90 pack, but similar in size and cargo carrying capacity.. 3 main compartments, top one is draw-string closure with a flap, which has a pocket/pouch up top kinda like the patrol pack, middle section is zippered, and have 2 smaller pouches (roughly size of alice rucksack pouches), bottom is an Olive Drab heavy nylon material, also zippered, and the whole thing have a lot of fastex quick buckles and strapping to compress, but there's no PALS/MOLLE webbing, no ALICE web slots, tho the shoulder straps are similar to the ALICE LC rucksack straps, except the Quick Detach hardware are fastex buckles instead of the metal stuff used on LC straps, most of the pack with the exception of the bottom section is done in the Woodland Camo, and made of the same material that the LBVs are made of, and has a large "US" printed on the top pouch/flap, but I couldn't find any vendor information, no green tag sewn anywhere, evidence of soldier nametag on the flap (removed), I don't have pictures available, but there's also no frame support on it...I wonder what is it? My friend thinks its a long range pack of some sort, possibly a commercial version... I don't know because its in the "modern" woodland camo and nylon construction, but has no webbing slots whatsoever?

Sounds like one of Brigade Quartermasters "Jungle Packs". About 10? years ago, the started offering New made copies of the WW2 M1942 Jungle pack

One of the key features you did not mention with the pack is the lack of a frame or anyway to attach a frame. You pretty much described the Tankers kit bag. It was made to replace to duffle bag for tread heads to better facilitate the fact that they live out of them. It offeres better access to gear and keeps you from having to take everything out of your pack because that one item you need wormed its way all the way to the bottom.
But that is all that it is good for as well. Just something to get your sustainment gear from the barracks to your vehicle and lash it to the bustle rack.

I did mention..maybe too vaguely... you are correct, no frame on it, no way to attach one...so its a tanker's bag? Hm. Any good to use for hiking or should I spend the money on something else?

I would not recomend using it for hiking. There it no back support at all. And no waist belt.... you would be hiking with a duffle bag on your back and as big as that thing is you could easily hurt yourself trying to carry a full load for extended periods.
It sounded like a Mounted Crewman bag as well but some of the stuff didn't make sense.
