Whats a good gun cleaning kit and stuff that you use?
are "name brand" ones like DAC and such worth it? or would you mainly focus on the type of oil and cleaner fluids?

A good nylon brush, like a tooth brush, dental pick if you are picky, bore snake. For cleaner/lube I use Hoppes, Rem Oil, or some green & crunchy stuff called MP7 I think. For my AR and M1A I also use a chamber brush.

Let me add or include a good cleaning rod with a ton of patches.
One rod does not do it all, if you have several other calibers same with jags.

I use a Hoppes Bore Snake for quick field running. Kept it in my bottom DCU shirt pocket in Iraq.
For My Garand, I use a Dewey coated rod and bore guide, or a GI kit when Away from home.
2 Biggest malfunctions with a Garand are Dirty/Corroded Chambers and using Oil instead of Grease to lube
For the AR, M4, Shotguns, etc:
Shaving brush for dust, GI Toothbrush, no dental tools to scrape the reciever or chamber, just elbow grease and common sense.
Tetra Teflon Grease for lube of M1 specifically, and use it on all my firearms for the bolt raceways, lugs, etc.
Militec works well too, I dont give a F-ck what the Army now says, they used to Issue it and it has an NSN.
GI Rifle Bore Cleaner is the schiznit for getting crud out

That's alot, for awhile I've been using the issued kit for my C7, till recent when I bought an Otis M16 cleaning kit so that the parts won't fall out. It has all the parts I need to clean my C7 and after a quick visit to the QM I got myself a C9 scraper so I'm good to go :D
Just need to grab a new CLP bottle when I get back to work...

In addition to what others have said I use this. It will strip off all oils from the metal so be prepared to re-apply accordingly. Make sure it's non-chlorinated and do not use on plastic or wood.

I bought a can of "Gun Scrubber" for my SKS (to help clean out the loads of gunk from the cheapo Wolf ammo I use) for $7. I felt like a dummy after I first used it and found out all it was was $.99 Brake Cleaner with a different label. Worked really well though.

Word to the Wise, Be very careful using those Carbon cleaners on M16/AR's. Get it on the Aluminum reciever and say goodbye to the anodized finish. Already seen one schmuck get an Article 15 for destroying the finish. for a Civvie its an aweful expensive mistake
For Bolts, Carriers and steel parts covered in Carbon it will do the job. I prefer the dip bucket for severe carboning on bolts, let 'em soak
Also dont use Graphite spray on the T6 Aluminum M16/AR recievers, it causes corrosion

Yes! Brake cleaner works wonders after a week of limited cleaning :D
After my platoon got back from the trenches our C9's were just 'caked' in carbon even after a few sparse wipedowns that we'd pulled off between contacts. Pulled out the brake cleaner and just soaked them down to remove everything and then a good coat of CLP on everything!

CLP
is what i mostly use, except i do lube the Garand as mentioned above, an old salt told me that and it keeps her rockin
also use wd40 on the outside and inside metal surfaces too in inclement weather, but for a teardown cleaning(as opposed to field cleaning)
ive always liked CLP
i still use an issue m16 kit for the ar's too

As stated above, Brake cleaner works well. CLP's great for getting out the carbon buildup in hard to reach areas. The cleaning kit you linked above is fine, but you might want to invest a boresnake on the side with lots of patches.
After clearing out most of the carbon, I apply a generous (almost dripping amount) of CLP to the action, and areas of movement and leave it be for a few days. After a few days, I do a take down and wipe off the CLP, as at this point, it'll be blackened with some of the carbon buildup that wasn't cleaned at the first go. I then reapply CLP and store it.
Believe it or not, I heard great things about using Mobile 1 synthetic oil as a gun lubricant. They hold up to the high heat and stays wetter than CLP.
I'm going to get myself some Mobile 1 to try as lubricant on my rifle.

I can see using maybe motor oil on a MG like a 50 on a range but a rifle not to sure for the little amount you'd use on a rifle is it worth the time. Also a C7/M16 after excessive shooting has a sweating cycle of around 7 days.

I second the Otis cleaning kit, that along with CLP, TW25 and FP10. I also have a dental toothpick, Q-tips, Rem barrel cleaner(which works extremely well), and a plenty of patches.

I keep two cleaning kits: a small one with just the basics for field/range use: cleaning rag, small bottle of CLP, GI cleaning kit (toothbrush, cleaning rod, bore and chamber brushes) and a few Q-tips; and a more extensive kit, consisting of basically the same, plus cleaners like Hoppes, G-96 (I'm not sure if they still make it-I haven't been able to find any in a while), a dental pic for the bolt face, pipe cleaners, and other various odds and ends.

Well seeing as my C8 has no place for a cleaning kit (unlike my old school C7A1) it fills the bill. I find it usefull because it can do both my C8 and my Sig Sauer....

Know what you mean had a C7A2/M203 when I was there got issued a C8 cleaning kit had no place to put it.Only thing I could have used was a bore snake.

:D Real men use a
http://www.project-x.org.uk/images/picsa80maintkit.jpg
but take it out of the rolled-up tied-up carrier pictured, pack it nice and tight in a li'l bag and it takes up minimal space in one of the rear pouches on your beltkit.
However, also got a

which I store in a waterproof

Those pictures aren't of my cleaning kit, I just googled them, but that is what I have. In a previous unit I got a little fed up with the cleaning kits drawn from armoury (brushes so worn/threadbare that no carbon was removed, oil bottle leaking all over my kit, etc), but there are people who sell the cleaning kits online (disposal sales?). Check you are getting them new though, as I managed too, as you don't want mangled unserviceable kit.
The top one is the currently issued kit for SA80, which most guys just roll up in its nylon carrier and pop in an ammo pouch, but best is to ditch the carrier and get a small bag, you can pack it up V SMALL so's it'll go in the rear pouch of your beltkit - it actually turns out the same size as the oilbottle that is issued. Fits nicely in a rear pouch along with hexi, meal pack, windshirt, space blanket etc, just in case you get separated. Plus putting it in the rear pouch means you regain an ammo pouch, handy for mags/grenades/smoke/boxed rounds - Inf NCOs do NOT like anything but ammo in ammo pouches!
The second one down is the older issue cleaning kit which is the sort that must've been in disposal sales and you can actually get ahold of, rather than must be issued. I'm going to slightly contradict myself here by saying that one of those lexan/tupperware screw-top food containers fit wonderfully into an ammo pouch and keep your RCK nice and dry on Cambrian rivercrossings! Or you could just sling it into your daysack or whatever. I'm sure somewhere easier for you does the containers, I used my old one I used to carry and microwave soup in when at work, but I think RVops.co.uk do them as well if you're having a drama finding them.
I guess you only really need one of the above kits to be honest.
The khaki brown pouch is sold by ukkitmonster.com along with the M16/M4 bottle, and below that is a boresnake, I got the idea to get hold of these after a mate of mine had to borrow a set of webbing off another guy for a range day, other guy had been to Iraq and mate pulled out bizarre different cleaning kit we hadn't seen before, apparently its the Op Cleaning Kit that is given when you go somewhere nasty to keep your gat functioning whenever you get a spare 2 mins, so I thought yep its a good idea to have the basics in your pocket, something like boresnake/pullthru, toothbrush/swabs, some oil. Hence me wanting to acquire these as a kinda homemade version of the op RCK, as it might be a year or so before I go (hopefully!) on an op and get issued a proper one...
The bottom 3 are a speedloader (for stripper clips, way faster than by hand), a combitool and dustcap for the SA80. The combitool is good to have on hand (a myriad of uses from setting the gas to setting the sights) and fits conveniently into the end of the muzzlecap when not used, so those are normally in my pockets as well.
I've got to say I like the idea of being able to stow your RCKs in your weapon's butt like I believe the M16s do (no leaky oil all over your kit!) but bullpup rifles don't allow for this. Bullpup is great tho :D

Oh forgot to say, I'm not selling mine, but Google is the way forwards.
Found http://thegunner.net/khxc/index1.php?app=gbu0&ns=prodshow&ref=SA80_Cleaning_Kit&sid=drnc1i7cu11nd5e91e52md66547e1480
which looks a decent site (if a little pricey), be sure to get one new and not shagged-out tho. I'm sure new ones come up from time to time at different stores.
Oh and there is meant to be a Spare Parts Wallet (one per fireteam?) as well for SA80, I am pretty sure these are not for sale however being weapons parts! God knows if there is a separate kit for MINIMI/LMG, UGL etc. There was a different kit we used for GPMG, also referred to as a SPW (and supplemented with many big feck-off wire brushes :p ) but I don't remember a separate kit for pistols...
Another old trick that machinegunners used is to use an old DKP2 (decontamination kit personnel 2) bottle as an oil bottle, its squeezy and a handy size, and you must oil an MG to keep her going. Probably not useful to a civvy shooter but if you're in the forces your Army probably issues something similar?
i use clp, a good set of dental tools, a barbers brush, cleaning rods with lots of patches, a good chaber and bore brush and some pipe cleaners for the tight spots. I also have a cut up t- shirt I use to wipe down the rifle with, can't stand or afford to have my rifle dirty.
I store it all in a flare tube, which raises eye brows when I break it out but it is watertight and secure
