Ok, we were having a class discussion. It's actually going on right now.

One guy is saying that after you dump the mag, you bring the pistol to your face "workbench" and have the muzzle up with the magwell on your weakside simultaneously putting in the new mag and turn the magwell out to the front and pinch the rear slide to rack then return to target.

Other guy is saying after you dump the mag (keep muzzle towards target), simultaneously bringing in the pistol to your chest "workbench" and simultaneously inserting the new mag, overhand grip on the rear of the slide to rack then punch the pistol back out.

# 2 but you don't need to rack the slide, just push the slide release.

+ keep weapon AND eyes in direction of the target ! ( weapon near chest of course )

The guy on the gun is former Sergeant Major of the Delta Force and founder/owner of Viking Tactics, Kyle Lamb.

I saw both approaches but IMHO the first option is faster and more comfortable. I saw same thing done while changing mag in a rifle. I'll try to find the video.

EDIT: Here it is - http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=khqxDNc-mbI&feature=related. Chris Costa pretty well explains why turning your magwell is better.

Right. #2 is left handed we are using Sigs.

Right this is what #1 is talking about.

I have trained both ways and like #1 better.

Whatever allows you to reload more quickly and get the gun back in the fight is the right way. My personal preference is for the 2nd way you describe, but that's just me. Do whatever you need to to win.

first option - tactical, second option - IPSC. Whatever works for you anyway

Actually it has to be the other way. 1st one is faster, competition, method. Second on the other hand is better for retention albeit slightly slower.

This is one of those things you can argue endlessly. I prefer not to obstruct my vision too much with a handgun and moving hands - I like to be able to see what's going on down range.

If you ever have an instructor that tells you there is only one correct way to do things, you should be suspicious.

A bit surprises me that never is talking about giving a look at the ejection port to make sure that the stoppage was caused by the empty mag and not by a malfunctioning. During the very basic training I got with pistol we were taught to bring the weapon to your chest while tilting it a bit to see the port and then to replace the mag (all that while going to in a kneeling position when in open or taking a cover when there's one).

you cannot aim upwards the sky in IPSC, it would disqualified you on the spot. The guy in the video does "second type" of reload. But whatever.

Uh, no you wouldn't be disqualified for pointing a pistol towards the sky. Not as long as you stay within bounds of the set safe angles.

And wasn't the second method about keeping the barrel pointing towards the target. Now if you watch again what Tomasie does: he doesn't keep the barrel pointed towards the target, now does he?
