On Thursday morning, 17 July 2003, Commander ISAF, Lieutenant General Norbert van Heyst handed over the Command of the Kabul Multinational Brigade from German Brigadier General Werner Freers to Canadian Brigadier General Peter Devlin. The official ceremony took place at Camp Warehouse where Headquarters KMNB is located. A formation of soldiers from all 23 nations within the KMNB together with soldiers of the Afghan National Army gave a colourful background for the handover.

Why is the soldier holding the yellow flag wearing white glove, and the other soldier holding the Canadian flag isn't?

Different countries, different protocols.

The german soldier is holding the same flag, with the same gloves. Perhaps it's the ISAF flag (???). I don't know.

digitalghost:

What's that about canadians? We don't sound like americans at all, there's a distinct difference. (I, for one, have a british accent, but that's an entirely different story)

Not sure what you're checking there. :)

Cousins separated by the same language, hehehe
Brits, Canucks, Aussies and Kiwis all speak different dialects of 'English'.

I do believe the gloves go with the Kabul Multinational Brigade (KMNB) Command Flag during the transfer of command.

If you are ever around folks from all of those countries, they will sound very different. Of course that takes a bit of time, but it's worth it so one is not insulting folks by assuming they are from the wrong place. ;)

In the big picture, the second one, that shows the flag parade, you can clearly see the amazing camouflaging effects of german "Wüstentarn". The german soldiers are downright invisible!!!

All the sterotypes of how we talk are from the newfies and the french.
Well Canada has 2 official languages, but they are mainly in Quebec.

What is an American accent? I know that I sure don't talk like I'm from Texas.

I agree with you, Tane, to some extent. There certainly isn't only ONE American accent, although after spending some time in areas of Europe, I felt that there was a certain something that's distinct about the way Americans speak. I mean, you can definitely tell when it's an American speaking English (no matter where they're from) versus a European, even if the European's English is perfect. I'm just not entirely sure what that something is. True though that there are major regional differences.

What's wrong with talking like you're from Texas? :)

The Canadians here are wearing the Canadian CADPAT(TW), I know all of them were given the CADPAT(AR) also for being in Afghanistan. I am yet to see a picture of the troops wearing it.
