Pretty poor quality compared to the German constructions that are dotted over my island home - but at least the British didn't use slave labour to make theirs.

Maybe the british fortifications look less spectacular and might be inferior to their german designed counterparts.
But many of the german fortifications built in the occupied countries where built of substandard material because of sabotage.
That said they are still very imposing reminders of the war :)

Not the British archaeological society, but the Council for British Archaeology. And the actual work was done largely by volunteers - which (along with a loss of funding IIRC) is why it's missing lots. Still a useful resource - just a shame it couldn't have kept going.
