I'm diggin' this setup, am I correct in assuming this is that oft talked of "Gorka"?

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/5779/1f69044bc816tz4.jpg

I have to begrudgingly admit, that I am developing a respect & a liking for Russian equipment, from looking over all the stuff in this forum. p-)

So uh.... is this available or what? Would it be prohibitively expensive and what is it made out of? The color is perfect for here in PA, I've been looking for something that is more of a dark/coyote brown and thats it.

"Gorka" suit - made for use in mountain (Gorka = pet name for mountain in russian) enviroment. But is very popular thing and used in other conditions. SPOSN "Gorkas" are officialy used by special forces. It is made of heavy canvas, polycotton for reinforcement (reinforcement occupies a big surface). There are a lot of copies and fakes.

This "Gorka" on the photo is the newest version. For example, on the old versions cargo pockets on trousers were like british DPM, now pockets are based on US BDU. Also new system for regulation of hood.

Their website is crap, if you want to contact them here is the forum of SPOSN (also known as SSO). It is in russian, but Ive seen a thread there, made by a foreigner who used internet translator (russian-english) to post it. Company representative answered in english.

This looks like a great piece of equipment!

Western stuff is only about MOUT & ballistic protection which really doesn't work all that well in the park. Wilderness that is. This actually looks like it is wearable in APC, usable in forest environment as well as MOUT. And yet it doesn't seem to be unconvinient or slow to use. What is it?

This is webbing, called "Smersh". British style suspenders, belt padding and belt (50 mm) plus different pouches. Older version was PLCE/ALICE, now with MOLLE. It is very popular gear among the russian military.

By the way, in Splav they have vests that are not shown in website catalog. For example, Ive seen (I live near the main Splav shop) modular vest covered with webbing in MALICE style.

By MALICE you understand tape-by-tape 25mm webbing or what?

STEPAN1983,

thanks for posting the SPOSN pics and the links...that Gorka looks like it would last for a long time with the reinforcements all over.

It's interesting the various designs/improvements that gear manufacturers come up with.
The Gorka in your posts,

is that made out of cotton and the reinforcement panels...are they cotton or a different fabric?

Is it a Gorka made for the civilian market or do the Russian forces use it?

Thanks,
Pinemarten

As I said before, reinforcement panels are made of polycotton fabric (mix of cotton and synthetics, also I think it has ripstop structure. Sometimes they make this reinforcements with camuflage pattern which look like SS pattern)

Russian forces (expecially special forces) use Gorkas, yes. SPOSN have some govermental contracts with forces. Speaking about civilians - there is a small shop in Moscow and a website. People complain that there are many problems with ordering SPOSN gear because SPOSN's main customer is forces and SPOSN guys dont have too much time to care about simple customers.
