The "Mengshi (Warriors)" off-road military vehicle produced by Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor surpasses U.S. Humvee in 12 out of 15 major battlefield performance indices, chief designer Huang Song has said.

Use by the Chinese military force has proven that "Mengshi" overtakes Humvee in 12 indices, including the loading capacity andoil consumption, and are well-matched with Humvee in three other indices, Huang was quoted as saying by Monday's Economic Information Daily, a Xinhua publication.

It took Dongfeng six years to develop the vehicle, which had undergone more than 200,000 hours of factory tests and more than 1.6 million kilometers of road tests before mass production.

The vehicle was formally equipped to the People's Liberation Army in 2007.

"Mengshi" has also passed various environmental and geological tests, including airdropping, high altitude and extreme heat and cold weather conditions.

With 75 patents, the 1.5-ton high mobility vehicle met all military requirements, said Huang.

It also won the first class award of national science and technology progress at the 2008 State Top Scientific and Technological Awarding Conference here last Friday.

This was the first such award won by the auto industry in 22 years.

LMAO!!roflrofl There is so much uber win in the article.
I especially liked the 75 patents achievement of AM General's China division.
I'm sure we will be seeing them in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters real soon.

Please. The humvee was designing in the 80's. Making a better vehicle is no big deal, but from that article you'd think the chinese just made the Uber-Humvee.

Question is, where'd they get a Humvee to figure out that their own "designed" vehicle beats it?

So let me get this straight, China is fellating itself over copying and Improving a Vehicle we designed and put into service in 1980?

And using a US Built Engine, Chassis, Gear Box under license from GM? and claiming it is all their idea?

Tell ya what sparky, I have a real war winner you can copy for 10 Mil US Cash

As per below link, they had some Humvee's from the 90's with them - so they might hv used those for comparison as well. no wonder 'their' design is better than the Humvee in 12 out of 15 areas of combat p-)

http://www.thetycho.com/news_dongfeng18.htm

It is still not exactly clear how Dongfeng got the design. There was a short cooperation in the early 90's with AMC, by that time the owner of the Hummer brand.

The story goes that the Chinese army showed no interest and the AMC-people went back to America but left a few Humvee's behind because they hoped the Chinese would change their mind.

But they didn't and the cars collected dust until the Humvee got famous in the first Gulf war. A Chinese general remembered the Hummers that where still in China and the army decided to reverse-engineer them.

Considering this thing weighs less than a Volvo, I'm guessing one of those areas wasn't armour.

I don't think the person who wrote this article is aware of the fact that the hmmwv was yesterdays vehicle and is in the process of being replaced I'd like to this this copy beat anything in competition for its replacement.

How long would this pos copy hold up in combat, the hmmwv has been fighting in wars its entire life

Don't worry, in another 20 years or so they'll pump out their own knockoff of the the HMMV's replacement just when we're about to make a replacement for it p-).

One is the mobile rice cooker and chopstick holder essential to all Chinese Rice Paddy Powered Vehicles Mk. 2.woot

The other is the Fortune Cookie dispenser (rumoured to have all the cookies with the same message:- Imminent Air attack warning!! OOPS your Fvcked,!!)

So has the MiG-21, but for some reason i'd still go for a F-22 over a battle-tested Fishbed if given the chance... ;)

Yeah, they'll announce a better replacement of the replaced replacement, so they can drive a better replacement of the replacement by the time the better replacement of the better replacement comes around. ..or something along those lines.

Great. Designed for maximum confusion on the battlefield and ideal for false flag operations.

Will be get a civilian version by Great Wall Motors?

Most notably the lack of aerodynamics in the design. :)

Well, after having extensive experience with their various civilian trucks, Great Walls, Super Deers, Red Stars, and what have you, then yes. I discount their automotive capability.

They didnt need an actual humvee. You know.. some of those chinese that come on here requesting pictures of the insides of humvees or the outsides of humvees. Very easy, alls they do is ask, and you do the work for them. Clever in my opinion.

The real test for any off road vehicle is the Paris - Dakar race and the Baja 1000. If the vehicle in question can endure this test, it has my approval.
