Last time I check, You mush have competed in a CMP sanctioned match.

Rifles are graded and priced is based on that grade. The quantities and grades varies over time.

Have all of the four following items sent to them by mail/fax with order:

1. Proof of US citizenship (i.e. birth certificate, passport, etc.)

2. Proof of age >18 (above usually takes care of it)

3. Proof of membership in an approved shooting club/organization (search here- http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/clubSearch.cgi)

4. Proof of marksmanship/firearms related training, examples being-
- Current or past military service.
- Current or past law enforcement service
- Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results).
- Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
- Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status.
- Concealed Carry License.
- Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training.
- FFL or C&R license.
- Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.
- Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity.

Their downloadable order form has a checklist and is very helpful. Available here:

I have not ordered through them, but have fired several M1s purchased trhough them, they were a joy to fire. However this was my only experiance with the M1, so take that for what it is. I have a friend who swears by them, and has never had a problem with any of their firearms.

CMP rifles are exactly as described, and if there is a problem, they will take care of it.

I bought my CMP Garand at the brick-and-mortar store at Camp Perry (Ohio). there is also one in GA.

there is a range of real quality within each grade. if you mail-order it , they just pick one off the rack. if you go in-person, you pick the one you want. I bought a Service Grade so nice the employees kept giving it (and me) funny looks, like they thought I'd swapped the tag from a Correct Grade. (when I got it home and took it apart, I found out the reason it wasn't Correct Grade: an H&R trigger group in a Springfield rifle - not a problem for a shooter.).

make sure you get ammo. CMP's ammo prices can't be beat.

also, Active Duty (or retired, I think) military personnel only have to show their ID. the Veterans' organizations (VFW, AmVets, and Legion) also count as clubs.

good to see I'm not the only one around here interested in the CMP.

The 30-06 they have right now is considered to be better than the old LC Match. It is Greek production. Assuming they still have it.

South store is in Al versus Ga.
When I joined it just took a certified copy of DD214, & driver's license. Then to join GCA.

Keep in mind that when you purchase at the store you pay state tax. Pay no tax when you mail order.

i got mine in 1986, winchester man and its a beaut
just shot it 2 weeks ago and i still love it

they also sell 03 and 03a3's and assorted .22 training/competition rifles and m1 carbines when they have them

i filled out the forms and at the time you had to be in a NRA or DCM affiliated club and fire a high-power match, i had to go to a police sta where they did my fingerprints to send in, i was at Parris Island when it got to my house mom put it under my bed and i panted over it when i got home and went out to shoot it

i think it was all of 162.00 bananas is that a deal or what?

i'll never get rid of it, the second centerfire rifle i ever owned, mini 14 was the first, grandson and grandad, i gotta get an m1a soon

take advantage of the great opportunity to own a piece of history

I was looking at the CMP rifles at Camp Perry and many of the rifles come with the recomendation that the barrel be replaced within a given number of rounds.

As for the ammo, if youre just looking for some fun its fine, but for any serious shooter that stuff is garbage.
