Hello all:

This is my first post on this site. Is it appropriate to seek help in identifying the uniforms worn in old photos of my ancestors? In particular, I think they belonged to the 35th Batallion, a militia unit in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada, later known as the Simcoe Foresters. I have photos.

thank you\\

Thank you, James. I'm a bit of a klutz with computers--I do not see how to attach an image. ???? Can you coach me?

Osprey books are a good place to look for this kind of information.

Osprey books are a good place to look for this kind of information.
But only for drawings and photographs. Please do not, I say again DO NOT take the text in Osprey books serious as a historical source.

What we're gonna need for this is a photograph and, if possible a date. Decade would be OK too if exact year isn't known.

Maybe this will help to start off? http://antiqbook.co.uk/boox/add/001855.shtml

They might not only have a wealth of uniform info on the various Militia outfits, but even muster rolls

With photos saved to your hard drive, use a photo hosting site like imageshack or photobucket. Please do NOT hotlink directly from another site. Also, remember to give credit where credit is due.

Hi

Not sure if I know how to use a photo hosting site. Hmmmm. I'll see what I can do.

Hello again:

OK, I've uploaded four images to Photobucket. (The instructions to view them are to go to the Photobucket webpage, enter Granitecarver and view the album.)

Two of the images are enlisted men and are brothers. They were in the militia about the same time, which is 1880. I am speculating that they were in the 35th Battalion, Simcoe Foresters. I am posting all this because I am seeking confirmation that these are uniforms of that outfit. There is one odd thing: The shoulder bands on the two uniforms go in different directions. It could be that one of the photos is printed backwards but I don't think so. Anybody got an explanation?

The two officers are positively identified as being 35th Battalion, Simcoe Foresters. I include them just for reference in case anyone is interested.

Comments? Thank you.

Granitecarver If you have them on Photobucket, all you have to do to post them is this.

1 Click under each image on the little box on the left side corner.

2 Scroll down the page to click on "Generate HTML and IMG code" and click it.

3 Right Click under "IMG images for message boards" (4th section down)

4 Return to MP. Net, right click, paste

Hello all:
I think I've figured out how to post images. These are what I keep talking about: looking for confirmation that the enlisted men are in the 35th battalion Simcoe Foresters.
