This should be an interesting thread, hmmm. Really what appears is happening is the administration will help their friends, just like GWB did his, same story different group of people, the only people that will not benefit is you and me, and 99% of Americans.

What amazes me is that he comes right out and says no skilled white construction workers...why wouldn't you want skilled workers of any color working on the roads, bridges, etc???

I guess we are going to have some issues, imagine a bunch of unskilled workers building roads managed by the government. Sounds like a real clusterfVck to me.

I can't wait.

Interesting,
I am amazed how far "Affirmative action" went.
Apparently not enough people point that such actions are racist in nature (as they are based on a notion that specific "minorities" aren't capable using existing legal mechanisms), and counterproductive as such actions actually promote racial division, and don't deal with real problems like nepotism, excessive cultural stereotypes and trivial lack of basic education.
What these politicians say is appalling.
Apparently none of them has a slight idea why this package exists in the first place (the recovery of national economics)-package that should go to economically active sectors in the first place.
I am too lazy to check full script, but I am sure nobody there discusses purpose and supposed effectiveness of proposed actions.
Simply appalling.

Well I can't watch the video right now but this kind of thing shouldn't really surprise anybody...especially coming from their government. Take a walk down any hallway in a federal building and compare the demographics you see to that of any other business that just hires people based on experience and/or performance. The same practices extend to businesses that the government buys from - the farther one gets away from white and male, the more taxpayers are obliged to buy from them. That's just how we've decided to do things. Fairness and all that.

And yet no other news source seems to carry it. Must be part of the great left-wing conspiracy.

First of all, Robert Reich is just another former Clinton-ista.

As for all this "infrastructure" spending to "put people back to work", look at what they are really saying. They are comparing it to the New Deal WPA, CCC and TVA programs which took people whose common work background was agriculture and labor and put them to work on construction projects. So, how many out of work bankers, computer programmers and network technicians are going to grab a pick and shovel and go build roads? How many people getting welfare and food stamps and AFDC and WIC are going to work building bridges?

None. Zero. It will be the same illegals and new unskilled immigrant laborers who will do it and send money back to Mexico and points south.

Do we need more "midnight basketball" programs and gummint jobs where the worthless, uneducated and unmotivated can work with a guarantee of not being fired? Is it about buying fuc*ing votes or actually building something?

Dumb idea. Real dumb.

With politicians like these, I wonder if United States will be the next Zimbabwe and South Africa by 2100.

Affirmative action is really just a nice of way of saying reverse-discrimination. The reason we have it, is that aparently many politicians believe that a good way to end racial discrimination is to make more of it. I love just love the reasoning.

Sooner than that. That dude in the video should be fired. What really gets me... he says... that the money should also be sent to unskilled "other people"..... oh sure.. like i want to drive over a bridge and have it collapse liek the guy in the video wrote.

Where is this country headed? I point my finger at the politicians. People are harping how bad it is now... just wait a few months down the road.

WTF we gonna do? I really feel that the majority of americans are gonna be just ran over, thier voice not heard, or if thier voice is heard, nothing happens.

Also point your fingers at the ppl who voted them into office.

America needs to wake up and do some research before they vote for someone just b/c they are different color.

I think that now, since Obama is president, the time has come to get rid of affirmative action. I doubt that would be even discussed though.

I'm a liberal, think Obama will be good for this country, etc, but hearing things like this makes me sick. I understand the importance of targeting chronically unemployed and improving their situation, but what does race have to do with it? There are plenty of poor white people, and poor white communities have the same problems as poor minority communities.

First off, it's not, "reverse discrimination", or "reverse racism". It is discrimination and racism. There is no reverse about it. Reverse discrimination and reverse racism are the lack of.

I think Robert Reich put his big fat foot in his big fat mouth. I hope everyone regarless of color or creed get what they deserve from this administration, whether that be good or bad. Most people voted for a Rock Star celebrity, without looking into Pres. Obama's policies or record, they will bear the conseaquences or reap the rewards.

As will the people who did not vote for this President.

The chronically unemployed are so for two reasons: By choice, or by handicap. It is not the Government's responsibility to care for the former.

Until recently, I worked for a county government agency.

I'm the first generation of my family to have gone to college. My dad was a blue-collar worker with a GED, and was born in a tent. My grandfathers were also blue-collar workers. Most of my family are mixed Cherokee-White, from Texas and Oklahoma.

I got through university on the GI Bill and part-time jobs.

And I would constantly hear my female African-American boss accuse me of having "white priviledge", as if everything I had ever achieved had been handed to me on a platter. This kind of thinking is rampant in government institutions, and if you challenge it, you are labeled as a "racist".

Well what can one do? They are being allowed to come here. They allowed these barbarians from Somalia to come here, now they are ruining Minnesota. Instead of being thankful for a chance to live in a civilised country, they are enraged at some of the things that "we" do. If you have alcohol, their taxi drivers will not stop for you. If you are blind, and need a special trained dog, they will not pick you up because according to their barbaric way of thinking, dogs are filthy. Americans come to the store in Minnesota, and once they get on the checkout lane, Somalians refuse to let them pay. Wonder why? Because if some of them bought ham or pork in store, it'd be shameful for the Somalian cashier to handle it. Americans let these people come here and start a better life, and these people disrespect the American culture and way of life. Send them back to Somalia so they can continue to kill and rape each other.

It is like that in most urban centers in America. Newark is just horrifying. East New York is just as bad. Like I mentioned on this forum before, when I worked for the NY EMS , we were given bulletproof vests to wear because our ambulances kept getting shot at. Trying to enter a housing project is like trying to enter a house in Gaza or Fallujah. I would actually take my chances of doing that with a weapon in Fallujah than unarmed in East New York.
