I know that Iraq has a ton of 7.62 AK types being used there. I wanted know about the frequency of the AK-74 (5.45) in Iraq. Are they around? Also I wanted to know if any PMCs used them in particular in A-stan or Iraq.
Thanks

Really, I always thought most of those were 47s?

I have never been there so I can't say for sure obviously, but the Iraqi army never adopted 5.45mm calibre rifles so I think if you take a 5.45mm calibre weapon you had better be damn sure you can get a reliable supply of ammo. 7.62 x 39mm AKs make much more sense if you have to use a "local weapon" or weapon compatible with the local common ammo.

Actually GazB, the Iraqi's did import the 5.45mm caliber and rifle in 2004. They purchased 4,000 Polish Wz.88 (Tantal) rifles. I am not sure if any PMC personnel have obtained this rifle? Personal trade, maybe?
Icemaster109, most AK's in the world today are actually AKM's. Though the AK-47 is still in abundance!

No damn idea about the 74's but we have found weapons you wouldn't even see in your nightmares. I can't disclose what though.

Nope, never used 'em...At least the companies that are contracted through the Dept of State have never used them, can't say about anyone else.
