There's no source in English but Opel will increase production rate because of heavy demand especially on smaller cars. But also the new Insignia line.
The government gets 2850 Euro if consumer buys a 15.000 Euro car.

About the "wrecking bonus":

The German government is paying people who junk old cars a bonus of €2,500 ($3,250) toward a new, environmentally cleaner vehicle, as part of a €50 billion ($67 billion) government stimulus plan.

Owners of cars that are at least nine years old and registered in Germany for at least a year can take advantage through the end of the year.

"It's good even when a car, produced let's say in France or Spain, is bought, through which the economy there gets back into the swing," Merkel said. "It's our common goal to get all of Europe back on its feet, because in the end, that's good for us."

The German Association of the Automotive Industry, or VDA, stood by the Merkel plan. VDA President Matthias Wissman called it "the right signal at the right time."

Do you think it was her idea? Or the idea of the car industry? ;-)

I salute the good german initiative, good for lungs and wallets. I find ironic that the worlds self-crowned green leader, Denmark, is going to import a substantial part of those wrecks.

IIRC I saw high ranked green party members on ENBW parties.

BTW: The car industry was sceptical at the beginning.

At the end the consumer is the loser again. As always. The car industry will make the money and the wrecking bonus will flow back in form of taxes.
