I just read this document, finding it quite interesting. It was released from secrecy in 2008 and show the CIA's perspective on chances of - and eventualities of - a war in Europe in the middle 80ies.

Common sense my good man.

Does anybody know why the FBI building in Washington looks so plain? And is there a UFO as in Outer Space team in Washington. There was something that said " Genius knows when to quit and stupid? Well? What if you went a little furthur than everyone else to find the people who need help. The only way to do that is to shake stupid and meet crazy.. You only find the type of peolple you are looking for when you make it to the type. Its hard to ever see um if you stay on the other side of the mountainn stupid or crazy?

He looks like the Baldwin guys age. The young one who started his own ministry and did movies like SIX. The blond. Baldwin number 2 is the elder who was at the same show. Not the young one. The black headed. I figure that the guy who acted really strange was there to pose a question. Maybe to the elder Baldwin from the younger. Its been a few years in the making from the younger to the older but the elder said YES and he doesn't even know it but it is a good thing.
What the flying **** do the Baldwin brothers have to do with article in this thread?
An interesting 'read'. Reading the thinking of the USSR and its view of a potential conflict was very interesting. I also did find it interesting that the USSR felt (or feels) it needs SAMs to secure air parity. That it found anti-armor or ground support aircraft (A-10's, helos, etc.) to be such a significant threat.
It did point out some things I had never realized, such as the number of NATO countries with independent nuclear forces creating such a planning problem for the WP.
The brief mention of the bastion problem for the Soviet Navy, highlights a major concern for the Soviet Navy or how to protect its boomers from NATO SSN's. I would have liked the report to have more analysis on the re-supply efforts from the USA and the WP efforts to stop it. No mention of what the outcome would be if NATO made a preemptive air strike versus a WP preemptive air strike or, its impact.
I was disappointed that the analysis on NATO's air power (Pg #23) was blanked out. Why, after all this time, was it necessary to blank out information more than twenty years old?

The Soviet nuclear strength lay with it's bombers and land based ICBM's, ours was with our boomers which the Soviets worried about stopping.
Re supply for NATO from the US would've been a nightmare as the UK was the primary stop. The Soviets could've nuked every airbase and airport to prevent troop reinforcements from being flown in. The same for Iceland.

This is random. It goes to a General. Like in the back of the book Zephania in the old not the new. It talks about how Nomatter how big the military you have is it will not save you against the ones I choose. "Are you gonna stop this" NO. Zephania maybe. Guys then were called watchers. Watchers were prophets. Kind of like the new movie coming out. Maybe its appealing to call prophets Superheroes. Looks like a good movie. But if I change my context to something that is appealing which is never anything nobal. If I say HELL.. Then people love how it makes um feel. I wonder if this writers elevator goes all the way to the top being the reason that he would use foul language to make his writing tuffer in the heart of his companions. I don't know what he was thinking. When you start trying to please people then its like laying down in an elevator shaft with the doors open and trying to keep it from going to the next floor with your body. He cant stop it once the button has been pushed. I just don't understand why people turn to harsh words
??????????????,,,,,im confused

Yes.
It Was called Operation: Nuke the slow Russian Boat headed toward the west coast while it was still far far far far far (like has not even made it to the middle of the Pacific far) away.
Avoiding this possibility was one good reason for the proxy wars that we fought in the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Note I did not say you had to agree, just that we did and one good reason for that was to "contain the Soviets" i.e. keep an invasion from ever being a real option for them.

Not correct.
Defined as A War of Independance.

As a young 19 year old in the US infantry, I served relatively close to the "Fulda Gap" in Germany in the early eighties. Our training was based on the great red threat and although we had confidence, I don't think any of us had a full realization of what that first wave of the theoretic red invasion would have brought. I think my area would've been over run in about two hours.

I talked to a guy who was an M60 driver somewhere close to where you must've been stationed. He said his unit was supposed to be like a "speed bump" for the Soviet onslaught. They knew they'd be over run, but regardless do their best and slow the Soviet advance until reinforcements arrived.
