Well......I finally pulled the pin....I'm engaged
J said yes.....so coersive interrogation methods were not required.
I WAS hoping for a loooooooong engagement....like 50 years...why fix what ain't broke?
Then the warning order arrived(like 2 hours later).....the newly promoted and very decisive Brigadier General J initiated Operation This Is My Bloody Wedding
Operation timing is set at 12-18 months.....this lowly private has been ordered to sort himself out
What?!?
Advice on how to avoid friendly fire from the BTDTs would be much appreciated.....yeeHaa! :D
woot Awesome Flagg. Congrats!! :D

congrads!! woot
to help mitigate disaster, try to involve her parents in the planning (if its possible) to aid in keeping the brigadier grounded. It wouldnt hurt to remind the almighty commandant of the operational budget either, that and to point out that there its no good to start your lives together under a massive pile of debt. Good luck!!!

Congrats mate.
Stay low and let the women work it out, but put your nose in every now and then so you aren't accused of not taking a interest. :D

Congrats!
Im getting married on July 17th, and there isnt much advice that I can give. As mentioned, do just enough that she doesnt get pissed at you, and show up. Thats about it! My future inlaws live 11 hours away, so they werent involved too much. Thank god for that. When they were here, we talked wedding plans all day every day. Not fun.

As for advice... at least pretend you're interested in the planning, but don't try to take over. Most girls dream of this day from the time they can walk, so they know exactly what they want. We want you to be as excited as we are, but we don't want you to interfere.

Since my marriage lasted all of 26 months, I won't give you any advice on how to have a happy relationship, but congrats anyway. Farmgirl has offered to dance at your bachelor party, I'm loaning her my uniform and some cuffs.

Exactly. From watching my sister's wedding 2 years ago, be sure and act interested, but let her make the final decision. She's probably been preparing for this day since she could walk.
Congratulations Flagg.

Thanks everyone!
The whole event was a total comedy of errors.....
I had originally intended to ask her at a Sarah Mclachlan concert we recently attended(her favorite musician), had everything organized...but alas, the ring was not yet available.
And as I was purchasing the ring overseas with a credit card, the bank rang to verify the purchase before allowing it to be processed......
J answered the phone....heard how much the transaction was for....and handed the phone to me......
I said......yeah, yup, un huh, thinking how do I get out of this?
Once I got off the phone and I refused to explain what I had purchased J began the interrogation.....I'm not a good liar so I blubbered out that I was importing an old Porsche(something I'd been talking about).
J was peeved as I hadn't bothered to tell her beforehand I had "bought" one.
A couple of weeks flash by with me deflecting the issue and answering "I'm not sure" as to when my new toy was arriving and veiled threats of J buying half of the South Island.......
So I finally get the ring......and i asked her on the beach behind our house on our daily walk with the dog.
I knew she'd say yes....but I was still quite anxious
Now J's making me cookies and stuff all the time to make up for taking the piss out of me about buying an "old Porsche".
So life couldn't be better!
Now the hard part is trying to coordinate people on two continents, 7 US states, and mates deployed :cantbeli:
Thanks again everyone!

All the best, Flagg.
:)
As with most staff officers, General J was not very switched on with the day-to-day runnings of the tranport motor pool. ("Porsche") Thankfully the intrepid dealings of the Pogues saved the day, thanks to the adroit dealings of a switched-on orderly room clerk admin. Well done, that man. Take 2 stripes out of petty cash... p-)
May you soon hear the pitter patter of little All-Blacks booties. Or Hobbit feet, which ever tickles your fancy more...
P.s. couldn't resist...(Gandalf)"One ring, to rule them all, and in the darkness, bind them.."(Gandalf) :P
Just jokes, dude. Congratulations once again.
