I think it's an identification thing so a trigger happy pilot doesn't decide to drop a cluster bomb because he thinks he spots enemy.

Im pretty sure that these aren't SAS photos. If Im not mistaken they are from the either the Pilbara reg, NorForce or some other northern survelilance group.
DigRAR, any suggestions?

Man i think Australia has it made for the most diverse training conditions in their own country
you can go from rain forest to desert in the matter of a couple of hours drive
urban to rural - and tropical to tundra by just a little puddle jumper
---- any whoo -- i love australia
do you have to be a native born australian to join the military there --or just gain citizenship

No you dont have to be born in Australia but you have to have to have permanent residency and be applying for citizenship. You can become a permanent resident automatically if you marry an Aussie, and can then join the ADF on the condition that you also apply for citizenship immediately - if your application for Cit is rejected you must then leave the ADF.

The top photo screams choko, so I imagine that is RFSU, Norforce, Pilbara Regt or 51 FNQR.
The bottom photo is of a RFSV (regional force surveillance vehicle), you can tell by the roll cage and split rim wheels. That doesn't mean that it's a RFSU car though. We had them in 6RAR (we also trialed the LRPVs) and I think the Adgie fools had them too. There is every chance that the SASR had them as well.
The SASR have been using the SRVs a fair bit lately to go with the LRRPVs so in the past they may have used the RFSVs.
When I did an exercise with Norforce back in the 90s they had doors on their cars, whether that is the norm for 51 FNQR or the Pilbara Regiment I don't know.
I know we had all sorts of battles with the higher ups to try and get rid of our doors (never happened, we ended up using the half doors), the adgies used to be able to get rid of their doors and SASR can do what ever pleases them.
All up I think the webbing on the bonnet probably indicates that it's RFSU, but I wouldn't put money on it.

This photo ^ I have seen in a private collection, and the close up of the bloke doing rifle exercises on selection was a section commander at recruit training when I was going through. Small Army syndrome.

I'm sure they arnt just standing in the middle of nowhere without transportation... He cant spot a coaly vehicle? And even then he could see them holding it from an angle or something. I dont know but that is very disrespectful I think.

One of the patrols got shot up by a A10 so they started putting a Union Jack on the groud as a signal. It would be nice to not have your nations flag lying in the dirt but it's most visable from all directions in the sky that way.
There is a photo of the whole SASR squadron and vehicles in Iraq with unit, Australian and USA flags flying. I reckon the boys weren't taking any chances on a US pilot not knowing what the Aussie flag looks like :P .

That's the photo I was talking about Robbo.
The top pic above^, the dead looking bloke in the middle was my Platoon Sergeant in East Timor. That photo was taken after the 20 km timed march on a 45+ deg Celsius day. He was buggered for weeks after that. There is another good shot somewhere of him in his boxer shorts with a heap of IV lines going into him :P .
The boat pic is probably RFSU, they like to wear those horrible looking kewpie hats.

CD's aren't that flash. I work with one and know of many getting out because they don't do anything. Plus conditions in the Navy is ****. I'm still stuck in an office on board HMAS Stirling.
If you want SF, go 4RAR. Clearance Diving is a load of ****. It used to be awesome, there's nothing in it now.
Plus CD's on ships are nothing but cafe hands at sea and glorified helmsmen. Not much diving going on these days.

Im afraid they're not really like the SEALs. If there's an American corollary its the old UDT teams. CDTs are more like the Canadian Clearance Divers. They are well trained in their 52 week long course, and the other courses they do but the only SF stuff they are allocated would be hydrographic recon work, and maybe EOD if you want to count that as well. They dont operate out of the maritime environment. They are a good unit, but if you really want to SF, I'd have to agree with the above post go 4RAR or SASR. Which one of those you choose depends on what you want to do.

Nah I got broken before I was old enough to give it a proper crack, it was hard enough to keep up in recon.
Are you trying to do a Casey Ryback from Under Seige PT, the combat cook. :P
The RFSUs and SASR war roles are a bit similar. Mobile, long range surveillance. But the RFSUs stop there where as the SASR go and do all the other good poop.

Yeah, i'm joining as a cook, do that for a few years, then give CD a shot, not because they look high-speed SASRy... but because i'd like to expand my horizons.
Yeah, digrar.. combat chef :)
