The IDF and ISA thwarted a suicide bombing which was supposed to be perpetrated last (Tuesday) night in Jerusalem, details released for publication this evening revealed. The attack was to be carried out by a Fatah-Tanzim terror cell from Nablus, which was funded by the Hezbollah.
Israel’s security forces last evening detained three Tanzim operatives in the village of A-Ram north of Jerusalem: Basal Hamdan, aged 24, Ala Aliwi, 23, and 18-year-old Ibrahim Abu al-Aish. In his interrogation, Hamdan admitted that a Tanzim operative from Nablus instructed him to smuggle Abu-Aish to A-Ram, in order to carry out a suicide attack in the capital.
Hamdan also revealed that another man - Mohammed Abed Raba – was supposed to hand them the bomb-belt to be used during the attack. Intelligence that was gathered led to the arrest of Abed Raba who was in a taxi at the Akraba roadblock near Nablus. During the search of the vehicle, a school bag that contained a 10 kg bomb was discovered. IDF sappers detonated the bomb in a controlled explosion.
According to Abed Raba, a Tanzim operative from Nablus gave him NIS 500 in return for delivering the charge to the area of A-Ram.
A senior IDF officer accused the Hezbollah of its growing role in planning terror attacks. “Hezbollah has taken over the Tanzim and is directing terror attacks against Israel directly from Lebanon”, he said. According to the officer, “Hezbollah delivers funds and instructs the Palestinian terror group where to strike”.
