Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) spokesman Nelson Chamisa said Mr Tsvangirai was taken to hospital but was not in a critical condition. He is still awaiting details.

Another party source said Mr Tsvangirai's wife Susan was killed.

Mr Tsvangirai's motorcade was involved in the accident 30 miles south of Harare as he headed to his rural home in Buhera, MDC sources said.
The MDC leader, who turns 57 on Tuesday, and his wife had been married for 31 years. They have six children.

Although Mrs Tsvangirai was not actively involved in the MDC, she had supported him and appeared at campaign rallies with her husband.
Mr Tsvangirai formed a government with President Robert Mugabe in February, which analysts say offers a chance to ease the country's economic crisis.

The new alliance faces an array of problems - food and fuel shortages, the world's most serious hyperinflation and a cholera outbreak in which nearly 88,000 people have been infected, with nearly 4,000 killed, according to the World Health Organisation.

Zimbabweans and Western donors are hoping the new administration can deliver political stability after a power-sharing deal was reached in September after months of tough negotiations.

Tensions have been rising in the new government over the arrest of MDC official Roy Bennett.

Zimbabwean police have arrested a magistrate who tried to release Bennett while his case was still before the country's highest court, a police spokesman said.

+R.I.P.+ to the deceased.

It's probably a little early to call this suspicious, but it's certainly hard not to.

damn you Connaught Ranger! I just posted this too in Gen. Dis. ha ha there I was thinking I was in the know before anyone else...
Like I said in the other thread, its hard not to consider that this was somewhat less than an accident.. Although it may well have been.

It sounds more likely to be foul play than an accident.

They couldn't shoot Tsvangirai, so they get some guy to ram a truck into his car. It's very plausible.

Call me suspicious but this isnt the first of Chairman Bobs political opponents to be in a perfectly innocent traffic accident?
