I remember reading that, during an interview, Zhirinovsky was answering questions regarding his heritage. The discussion went along these lines:

Interviewer: What was your mother?

Zhirinovsky: A Russian.

I: And your father?

Zh: A postman.

Hah, although the proper joke is : Mother is Russian, Father is a lawyer.p-)

Does self-criticism in judaism exist? Or as soon as a jew disagrees or questions, he i get the perma "self hating jew" sticker?

I wouldn't call him anti semitic - he's basically anti everything and everybody - especially if he had a bad day.

His father converted the entire family to Lutheran Protestantism, if I'm not mistaken. Karl later became an atheist, though it was speculated that he may have practiced occultic Satanism.

I remember an incident I saw on TV when Zhirinovskij visited Finland (must have been in the 90s). He had got some publicity beforehand by talking about how the Finnish army was nothing but cannon fodder, and how Finland would be part of the Russian empire again, once it had been "re-established". At his visit at some Finnish factory(?) there was guy that gave Zhirinovskij his golden pen so he could write an autograph. Zhirinovskij simply put it in his pocket and refused to give it back. Says a lot about the guy I think.

The reason modern Judaism exists is self-criticism, otherwise we would have been as backward as Islam. Actually, when Europe was in the dark ages and before it there were debates by the Jewish scholars on laws and ethics. Never in Judaism was there an era that only one truth exists, there were always different scholars with different opinions that were debating face to face.

Though, if you join the enemies of your people, those who wish to eradicate it than there's no doubt what you are.

So Judaism is modern because Jews debate with themselves! I'm sure Hitler had some debates with his staff as well. If there was so much debate about ethics and laws how come we don't see any of that in the way Israel behaves in the Palestinian occupied territories, where neither eithics or laws apply.

Well, that came out wrong!

But, I will answer you as a non-Jewish person. There is much opposition against Palestinian policies as practised by the government. They also have liberal groups, politicians... Just like in every country. They have also tried more liberal and peaceful methods, but the terrorists are usually backward and thus regard that as a sign of weakness or lack of will. Whenever there are huge class differences between two warring factions, those of higher education will always suffer extreme frustration and often engage more on the enemy's level as normal means of discourse do not exist, and as the enemy is often unable to engage in what would be considered civilised conversation and debate.

You know other people that know about Judaism that aren't Jewish? Maybe today the people that learn it in university but not in the past.
Israel is a secular country, it doesn't necessarily follow Jewish ethics or laws. Usually it doesn't. The debates weren't about how a country should behave but only about how individuals should behave.

Christianity had its reform, Judaism had these debates, Islam is well still waiting for something to come out of the dark ages.
