Hi folks; Quick query about the make/manufacture of the daysack worn by some Royal marines in these recent photos from Op Sond chara in Helmand province. The one i am refering to is british desert DPM,has no side pockets but does have straps with fastex clips and zips to attach the PLCE bergan side pockets(as seen in one of the pics)and has a box type pocket on the lid.Oh,and it also has PALS type web strips on the front and a brown airmesh type back panel.I have done a search and turned up nada:-( Is this an issue item or a privately purchased one?Any help from the Brits here would be appreciated.
Regards,Apod.

P.S In the pic with the GPMG gunner its the lad standing behind him who is wearing the pack i am on about.:)

Hmm, I've not really seen it before, it kinda looks different in each of the pics also. I thought it could be an ECM bag with Bergen rocket pouches on the side but I am not sure. I'd say it is probably issue as in some of the pics it looks very similar to our issue green daysack (some of the zips and straps are the same).

Looks like a desert version of the N.I.patrol pack.

Hope this helps... www.combatservicesupport.co.uk

Isn't it just a version of the Northern Ireland pack? You can get ones without the little sidepockets permanently attached, but with zips and buckles on the side.

I've one in DPM (bought privately but seems to be PLCE issue or comparable) and it fits under the bergen lid for carrying the whole lot far easier without sidepockets, and you can attach bergen sidepockets if you need to carry more, which is what they seem to have done in your phots.

Still enough room in it for warm kit, wet kit, ETH, water, ORP, CWS, and whatever else you might need to carry. Good piece of kit. Far better than the 'jetpacks' solution in any case!

It,s definetly not an N.I pack, modified version or not.Nor is it an ECM pack. You can make them out clearly in alot of the other photos from that OP.I think the trial variation option is the most likely.
Thanks to all who took the time to reply.:)
Anybody out there got any more info or better pics?

BTW;I am NOT an airsofter!

It is the latest (trials) variation of the patrol pack - NI patrol pack as it was originally called, 'cos it was issued for patrols in NI. There have been at least 5 versions (that I can think of) as it has evolved over the years.

OK Royal thanks for confirming.Curious though.I was under the impression that there were only two models of the N.I pack .The Mk 1 which had small zippered side pockets and the MK 2 which had the box type side pockets and which i believe was the model in use since '95-'96.
What other variants were there?:)

No idea what the designations are/were, but there was a version with zip off side (bergan) pockets in DPM. A version with box side pockets in Desert DPM, another Desert DPM version with a back system designed for the Osprey plates (trials only AFAIK) and a version in white IRR cordura.
