Is there any country in the world that commonly uses Red Dot sights with Magnifiers? I have a very hard time seeing them in common use. Any people here use it out in the field, can you give me feedback (if you have the Flip to side mount for the magnifier please tell).

We were issued some aimpoint 3x magnifiers in Iraq. They were theater property so we had to leave them there when we came back. But, we didn't use them really anyway due to the mount. It didn't swing the magnifier over to the side; it just twisted it which made it come off when twisted. If it functioned like the larue style mount, they would have been used a lot more.

The LaRue Mounts with the FTS feature are the way to go, but that could be said for everything LaRue does.

I used a 4x magnifier with my Eotech on my last tour. It had the FTFS mount and it was handy as hell. What specificly are you looking to find out about?

I just want you to tell me the ups and the downs about the combination. What you found out, out in the field. Also if you have used ACOG as well compare the 2.

I prefer and Eotech to the Elcan C79 I am issued but the Eotech doesnt give you any magnification to search culverts ect for IEDs. The farther I can be from them when searching them the better hence the 4x magnifier. It was handy as hell. My only worry is that it unbalances your weapon when flipped to the side. If you were going to not use it for an extended period I would just remove it (the mount makes removal and re-installation a 1 second job.). I almost bought an Acog off a Yank over there for $400 (kicking myself that I did'nt) but I have never tried them to compare the two.

I had it shipped to me at an AFPO box in Afghanistan from the US. I understand there are some issues right now with getting Eotechs across the border (issue is on the American side?). Not sure if that will apply to magnifiers (although I doubt it).

Damn an ACOG for $400. I should kick you for that!

no actual operational experience... purely range and class room view....
The EOTech is great close in and to about 50yrds, once pass that you begin to pull even with a magnifing optic, and at about 100yrds, the EOTech and ACOG are about even in speed...my personal observation and experience..
As far as magnifier, I am actually slower from muzzle to about 75yrds... since the 3x magnification hinder the field of view for quick target acquistion.
Flip to side mount like the one I use from EOTech are great, but it adds bulk and weight...I usually run it without the magnifier at the range I shoot at..
My magnifier through the EOTech are never on the same POA vs. POI with EOTech alone...I had to use the adjustment on the mount to correct the problem
Magnifier is great for zero and static position...or when you are doing CQB and had to check something down the block in another building. and you can still be lightning fast with just the red dot when the magnifier is flipped to side.
your opinion may vary!!

I kinda got a deal related to that, when I was to the front, bought a NIB EoTech (the normal size one, but the one able to be used with NV) and the Shieldshot tactical mirror sight for 49$ overall.....I was pretty stoked about that price :D
