Ya tell me about it! I was just thinking the same thing! :P

For the Chinese members of this forum, I hope you get more involved in some of the debates about China. They are ussually lively but lack input from actual Chinese residents. I'll be posting a paper on the China-Taiwan debate on Tuesday and would like to hear your take on the issue.

why does PRC need a depot ship? where do they plan on projecting power? ;) If I recall correctly - ROC had the 3rd largest Marine Corps and amphibious capability in the world for a while...of course that was when they dreamed of taking the mainland back!

Ohhhhh...that's right...the Spratleys...I forgot ;)

but seriously...what's been going on with the Spratleys...who's going to own that big fat pile of gas/oil/etc?

Who's all in on wanting a piece of that?

Last I heard:

China
Vietnam
PI
Anyone else?

Xingbake

Philipine, Indonisia, etc... TW still occupys the biggest island of Spratleys. China's stand point is to hold the augement of ownership and promote cooperation of peacefully exploration of the resource there. But from my point of view, it's because TW issue is the first priority. China doesn't have bandwidth to deal the two issues at same time.

I'll try to ask you, don't you feel exploited that your government is spending so much money on an army that you don't need while there are people that need it more?

P.S. The Scotish puppets lover, don't answer. Go and fill your puppet girlfriend with air.

BTW, if you can't answer my question just say, "no response".

Japan, the world's second largest military spender, is far behind the United States with an annual defence budget of $49 billion, followed by Britain with $36 billion. Followed by Britain, France and China.
China has 1.4 billion people and only ranked as No. 5 and you think it is too much?

China is spending 60 billion dollar per year on the army.

Still I can't understand why you need such a large army, you have only few little enemies.

Anyway, thanks for the answer.

It's not just about "enemies".

It's about projecting political power throughout the region, and the world.

China WAS at one time a global power(there is evidence to suggest China may have explored as far south as Australasia many hundreds of years ago)...it's simply re-emerging as a global player

Don't forget Africa too, when the rest of the old world thought that the Mediterranian was a huge ass ocean.
