I picked up a Remington 700 SPS Buckmasters Edition in .270 last fall from Cabelas in a combo deal at a pretty good price. It's my first rifle, and I am finding that the bolt to be a bit stiff. I know it's an entry level rifle, but I am unable to keep my eye on the target and feed a new round into the chamber. Any help would be much appreciated. Modifications or lube/oil?

Just remove and clean the bolt, clean the rest of the mechanism and put some gun oil on the right places. If its new its normal that the mechanism is a bit stiff, after hundred rounds it should be pretty smooth.

x2 just keep it cleaned & well oiled.
I have the same rifle in .300WSM; it's still pretty new and the actions a bit stiff as well

Do you know how to remove the bolt? If so, remove the bolt, wipe the bolt and chamber will oil. I usually leave a light coat on wear surfaces. Work the action a number of times with oil on it and you will slowly feel it 'break in'.
I don't know if it will take 100 rounds. I put a silicone gun grease on my M14 but don't know if that would help or hurt your 700.

You can really smootht he action of your bolt gun if you take some bore scrubber and apply it all over the moving surface... and start cycling the action a few hundred times....and make sure you clean the gun well afterwards.....you will get a jewel like action..
Learn that little trick from Larry Vickers on how to smooth out your 1911. same result will applies to what you are asking for.

Also, it is messy, is tooth paste, it is a mild abrasive.
