I was gonna quickly agree with you, but as I look at it more, I can't help but notice the amount of detail necessary to PS something like this. Notice that there is a vapor trail following the jet then angling upwards, distorting the mountain's edge behind it. Also note the disturbance of the water surface. The shockwave around the wings doesn't look right though, for whatever reason. Meh, I could be convinced either way.

not to mention the guys on the boat looking behind them

I say PS. The aircraft looks to be one of the NAvy's Blue Knights. I seriously doubt one of those guys would be popping mach 1 that near to civies.

Definitely photoshopped.
Look at the cars on the bridge...

My hobby is graphx-design and I happen to work with photoshop alot for that reason.
I say this is photoshoped, and it's not done good. The "vapor trail" looks way too flat and badly brushed on the image, the lightning on the F18 totally doesn't fit and last but not least the F18 is too sharp for being a bit in the distance of the picture. Another thing about the "vapor trail" is, that it was certainly put there to hide the copy-and-paste job that was done.
If anyone can prove me wrong about that, I would be very suprised.
it's real

It's the Blue Angels not Knights and IRRC they usually do this when they perform at Fleet Week in San Francisco - fly under the Golden Gate...it's not really that challenging a stunt but it still looks cool...

Damnit, and I was so sure!!
But You have to admit that picture looked extremly strange.

Interesting......I wonder if it's the proximity of the water, humidity in the air, or impact of humid air on airframe to cause that "misty" effect?
Very cool..........should be upsidedown ;)

That "misty affect" is the result of the aircraft just transitioning into Tran-sonic (mentioned before) (the speed just below but not into the speed of sound, just below 700mph at that altitude). In a later picture (a 10th of a second after this one) the clound would have been much more evident!

Just FYI: The cloud is caused by the sudden pressure change around the airframe. It condenses the moisture in the air for just a mili-second causing what is essentially a cloud. I know, I'm a geek. Hey, it's what I do, so sue me!

If I was out for a nice peaceful sail and this thing blew by, it would be time to commence Operation Soiled Trousers.

That's right, the plane break through the sonic barrier .

They do NOT break the sound barrier close to populated areas...they would shatter windows.
technically, it is not so challenging to fly under the golden gate. coz pilots flew B17 Flying Fortress (much bigger than F/A 18) under the golden gate in 194? (sorry forgot)...but still maybe speed makes difference. dont know

Maj... the blue angels always break the sound barrier in populated areas during air shows. I live in San Diego, and the days before the airshow starts, theres a few pops and loud bangs, and theres the blue angels flying a few hundred feet off the ground. though, the blue angels do generaly only go super-sonic when going over the runway/infront of the crowd, but sometimes not... and i've experienced once a couple years ago. :P
i must say though, i think they best stunt is when they go straight at eachother, and turn at the "last second" that always gets a "well hot damn!" from me :)
and above and beyond...
blue angels kick serious ass. woot
