Those who wore Adidas trainers were known as Adis; those who wore Puma trainers were know as Rudis. Afghanistan became the Soviet equivalent of South Central; the Adis and the Rudis going at each other just like the Bloods and the Crips did. Units were torn apart as playful digs were replaced by UAZ drive-bys - the PKM being the favoured weapon of choice. Just look at the contempt on the faces of the men in the last photograph...

In before the thread lock.
There are rumors of a top secret spetznaz unit that actually wore Reebok Pump sneakers.
Ooops, I shouldn't have said that, now I have to kill you. ;)

are you saying the soviets also copied designs of puma? adidas was a major sponsor during the moscow olympics and that explains the use of adidas sneakers and fake copies.

And there are some mistakes (for example in the "uniform" part) on this site. Dont trust everythig what they say there
Why were these guys wearing such a kind of footwear? There must be better boots for rugged terrain than goddamn sneakers.
STEPAN1983

because they didnt have those better boots :) They used what was available
Kirza jackboots were absolutely uncomfortable in Afghanistan terrain, soviet army boots with laces were piece of shiт. This sneakers were a good and affordable solution.
