'I'm having a very good crisis,' says Soros as hedge fund managers make billions off recession
A hedge fund manager who predicted the global credit crunch has said the financial crisis has been 'stimulating' and the culmination of his life's work.
George Soros, who predicted the global financial crisis twice before, was one of the few people to anticipate and prepare for the current economic collapse.
Mr Soros said his prediction meant he was better able to brace his Quantum investment fund against the gloabal storm.
But other investors failed to take notice of his prediction and his decision to come out of retirement in 2007 to manage the fund made him $US2.9 billion.
And while the financial crisis continued to deepen across the globe, the 78-year-old still managed to make $1.1 billion last year.
'It is, in a way, the culminating point of my life’s work,' he told national newspaper The Australian.
Soros is one of 25, top hedge fund managers from across Wall Street who have defied the credit crunch crisis to reap a total of $11.6billion (£7.9bn) last year.
The managers made their profit by trading above the pain in the markets, according to Institutional Investor’s Alpha Magazine.
Former maths professor James H. Simons, who has made billions in hedge fund Renaissance Technologies, earned $2.5 billion running computer-driven trading strategies.
And John A. Paulson, who made his fortune by betting against the housing market, came in second earning $2 billion.
The managers made the profit in a year when losses were recorded at two of every three hedge funds and when hedge funds lost an average of 18 percent, according to the New York Times.
Two of the three managers who tied for ninth place, at $250 million, are based in Britain and include David Harding of Winton Capital and Alan Howard of Brevan Howard Asset Management.
Another Brevan Howard employee Christopher Rokos also made the list.

So ?
This is all within the legal limits of the captialist system. So why portray this as if hedge fund managers are somekind of bad guys or criminals ?
Are you a SOCIALIST or a COMMUNIST, Logan ? I am gonna keep an eye on you.

Personally, I'm all for capitalism........however I DO have concerns about the ability to open massive, highly-leveraged, naked, short positions.
Short-term price manipulation can be curtailed a bit by reducing or disallowing naked short positions and putting reasonable limits on leverage.
If your business has a legitimate reason for leveraged hedging(and there are many) so be it....it's a fair, reasonable, and often prudent business activity.
If your business is solely to exploit or further magnify a financial weakness in a commodity or currency.....that's where really bad things can happen.
Soros pointing fingers at the fiscal irresponsiblity of others "on behalf of humanity" during the day, while economically raping humanity all night long doesn't wash with me.
If he was such a great humanitarian he wouldn't be throwing financial Molotov cocktails on our already smoldering houses then cashing the insurance cheques.
Soros is a fcuking turd.

Funny thing.......about three years ago my wife asked me after a work phone call who I was talking to.
I said it was the FOREX trader at our bank.
She asked if the person I was speaking with was a girl.
I said yes and asked why.
She said she heard me say "naked" on the phone call.
I explained to her it was entirely related to a FOREX hedge we were putting in place for a business.
She then asked if the FOREX trader was "hot"...and I responded by lying "no"(I had only met her once for about five minutes while in their offices).
It was much simpler that way.
She was quite hot actually....but the conversation was entirely about FOREX and commodities.....sigh :)

Yeah...about that...Soros' species have an average life expectancy of about 813 years...so he's probably got a ways to go unless he gets a tan or a bad case of wood poisoning.

I love how he "predicted" the crisis; much like he "predicted" breaking the Malaysian currency?

Soros makes much of his being (allegedly) a survivor of Naziism and escapee from communism.
I say BULLCRAP!!
Its obvious that he learned the tactics of BOTH those regimes well, as his lifetime record of criminal currency manipulation that ruined economies (Indonesia would arrest him if he ever set foot there) and support for every godless left-wing brain damaged socialist cause testifies.

Its only relevant if you are interested in the history of the Pacific War. Since this site apparently does not allow signature lines, I've put it in manually. If that is against the MP culture, I shall stop doing it.
(Having said that, Dear God, I've seen your member page. Its pretty obvious why you chose an unrelated matter to attack me due to our obviously conflicting philosophical views.) I think I will have to ignore you from now on.

Agreed but in these times those who are cashed-up will vacuum up appreciable assets at bargain prices...the rich get richer. Not sour grapes, but envy:)

Envy!? I don't think so. Taking advantage of people's misfortune during an economic crisis will pi** people off! Pi**ed-off people will follow almost anyone who will bring order to the situation.

The people who are to be blamed are the one who made bad predictions, and who have lost money from it. They caused the crisis. If more people like Soros had taken the good decisions, there would have been no supbrime issue.

You have to allow this old fart to tell all his young roosters, how much he told them so. He's probably so excited about it, he put his viagra prescription on hold. Had he been wrong and provided only a moderate profit, instead of the expected gigantic profit, his investors would have had his balls and placed him in a public nursing home.
I don't know if there's a more sympathetic way of broadcasting his message. Witnessing our roaring private consumption, everybody must have thought: "It's simply too good to be true!" But some said it with a subdued scepticism and others with undivided optimism.

There should be rules against making money out of thin air. Bill Gates is ok... he actually makes a physical product. Guys like Soros, are going to play in the Casino with enough money to buy the Casino should things go bad.

A Poster of Karl Marx perhaps? Or does the Hebrew script correctly identify "The One" as anathema to Israel's interests? (In which case I apologize, but somehow the poster looks a bit too hagiographical to be a critique).
To paraphrase Dennis Greene: "He IS who WE THOUGHT HE WAS!"
(Marxist, anti-American, and incompetent to boot.)
Your first affirmative action president. I at least can always return to the Old Country, which has gone from communism to democratic capitalism. Fairly tragic that my adopted country that I served in uniform for so many years is doing the opposite, don't you think?
Now - is THAT "controversial" enough for you? I would say more about the IQ of people who voted for this ****, but I want to remain on the Mods good side. I didn't come to this forum to engage in political discussion. I have other sites for that.

And at your age, I might have similar delusions. Come to think of it, at your age I thought that Jimmy Carter was a better choice than Ronald Reagan.
Don't worry. Stupidity generally dissipates somewhat as one ages. I emphasize *SOMEWHAT*. You DO have to have the backbone and self-confidence (not to mention an open mind) to admit when you were wrong, and, if necessary, re-orient your world view.
Here is another drop of wisdom that you won't understand for a few decades: Kids your age have the MOST CLOSED MINDS of all. And are the ones most easily led by the nose. The sooner you figure that out, young man, the sooner you'll grow up.

My comment that you quote above is about OBAMA, not Soros.
Soros may be a Marxist and anti-American, but he is at least competent at what HE does.

answer my own question it is polymyxin an antibiotic used in neosporin.I was writing an essay for the REHIS Advanced (http://www.rehis.org/) course and at the same time I was registering for MP.net and there in a book in front of me was “Bacilluspolymyxa (http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Bacillus+polymyxa+(Bacillus+aerosporus))” a bacterium completely unrelated to my essay. Yeah he is great with hedging, but he best watch out his own pocket senators won't save his ass. The man is a douche no doubt no one should glee as much as he does given the mess we are.
I could be rich and wealthy If I too could leverage at the levels he does it.
Shorting was a natural thing and smart thing for those who were aware of the **** storm coming and were able to do so. AMD for one was one company that was over valued in my view years ago and back then it was like at $30 as of today it trades at $3.56. Even not that long ago when it was trading at $14 when Abu Dubai sunk in for 8% stake I would have shorted had I been able to. Soros has done good taking advantage of all the opportunities that have come his way. This time around though could be his own undoing.
And it really should be illegal.
Burn it with fire!
