Odendaalsrus - About 200 demonstrators gathered in front of the Odendaalsrus Magistrate's Court on Wednesday as farmer Neels van Biljon appeared in court.
The demonstrators chanted the refrain "No bail for racist murderer".
Van Biljon is being charged with attempted murder after one of his farm workers, Andries Xaba, 59, was seriously injured.
The ANC, led by Mathabo Leeto, executive mayor of Matjhabeng and leader of the ANC in the Lejweleputswa district, handed over a memorandum in which they asked that Van Biljon should not be granted bail. Leeto said Van Biljon was damaging the image of farmers.
"I ask all farmers to speak out strongly against what has happened here."
Xaba is still in intensive care at Bongani Hospital in Welkom, where he is being treated for head and other multiple injuries, as well as several broken ribs.
Conflicting statements
In the bail application the investigating officer, Captain Ernst Hantsi, stated that conflicting statements by Xaba, who was still heavily sedated and had been in severe pain when the first statement was taken, were the reason why it was initially thought that Van Biljon had dragged him behind the bakkie.
Apparently an argument broke out between the two men over two sheep that had not been slaughtered. The verbal confrontation escalated into physical conflict.
As Van Biljon got into his bakkie and started driving away, Xaba grabbed him through the open window, ran next to the bakkie and fell.
Magistrate Manny de Gouveia found no reason to refuse bail and Van Biljon was released on bail of R5 000 subject to stringent conditions.

How fvucking ridiculous is this entire scenario? Why was the guy even arrested? Why'd he even have to go to court and apply for bail?

PS: Dear ANC flunky's, someone has to actually be killed before you can accuse anyone of murder!
