Thought I would post some pic of old military helmets, some WWII, etc. try to describe w/ photos.
first is (I believe) a WWII Italian helmet, I think the ext paint has been redone at sometime, the leather liner is very similar to German WWII helmets but I believe may be original Italian liner. Note the number of holes in each flap.

Next is a helmet that is similar to British helmets of WWII and some WWI USA helmets, but when I got this one, I was told it was used in the Arab Israel war....not sure which one. it is very old looking, and different from most of this type of flat helmet I have (several types but this is interesting):

That British Mk II (it isnt a US M1917/1917A1) had something riveted to the one side of the Brim. It dates from at least the WW2 era from the springs in the chinstrap.
Somewhere under the brim should be a Broad Arrow stamp signifying War Department Property.

maybe it had the leather flap across the back that the fire fighters in WWII used?? I have one of those somewhere here that has the leather on the back still I think. I will look for the broad arrow. thanks for your knowledge.

Unless you can clearly see the stampings, it could be either British or American, to the best of my knowledge. The british used this helmet type in WWI and WWII, while the U.S. used their own version in WWI (and in some cases in WWII). I dont personally think from just seeing the bottom-view that you would be able to tell, or if so very easily.

561-663 Brooklyn
or something similar
shell will be stamped on the inside brim with a Number letter combo

Its got split rivets securing the chin strap, M1917 helmets have round rivets.

This one is a british shell Mark II produced during ww2, then sold to the Netherlands and reconditionned by them for the civil defense.
The liner is dutch, and you're lucky to have it complete :)

Well done chaps, I was at an Arms and Armour society meeting and this that was one of the helmets brought in. I have attached another photograph of a 1st production run Brodie helmet that was also brought in. Note the Dayfield body shield that it is sitting on!

I have recently acquired what appears to be an early model Brodie helmet. It has been repainted in apple green color and has a reproduction WWI British liner inserted.
It is rimless and the strap hooks are attached with split pins and not rivets.
It is stamped on the rim with the letters "X H P".
Any ideas on the origin of this helmet ?
I have attached (rather poor quality) photos of exterior, interior and stampings.
Thanks for your help.
