Chem Decon Unit. Basically a jet engine on a truck. The Soviet version was the TMS-65.

I guess you mean a Recon unit? But what does that jet-engine detect? Or does it have another purpose?

Sorry for the mil speak. The vehicle, if you look close enough, has a large tank on the front that would contain the decon material(water mixture) and the engine is a jet engine. The operator sits in an enclosed cab on the side of the jet engine.

I remember seeing this same picture a very long time ago during a vehicle recognition lesson.
Basically they fitted a jet engine onto the back of the truck, hooked up to a huge tank of water / decontamination liquid. The vehicles would then be well and truly 'jet-washed' to clean off any contaminants. The cab of the truck is supposed to be 'NBC Proof' so that the operators are safe from any residue or vapours from the cleaning process.
The one thing that did stick in my mind is the fact that the briefer mentioned that if the tank was filled with a chemical agent, it could also be used to disperse large amounts of the agent across a large area in a very short time.

I think that the Russian didn't care that much back in the days. But on the other hand, when you disperse it enough, would it still be effective in any way?

If a guy said he thought a minefield was clear, would you want to walk across the ground?
ANY level of contamination can pose a serios threat to troops without protection and take up massive resources in manpower and equipment to wash down vehicles and such after going into an area that has been contaminated.

hehe, I thought it might have been some special vehicle that sneaked up behind tanks and blew them over  .

Now theres an idea lol. WOnder if a hig pressure water jet and dropping the handbrake on the thing would make it go from 0 - 100 in 2 secs !!!!
Also wonder if any crazy russians hyped on vodyab have tried it lol.
