I have this camera in my collection I've never been able to identify. All I now is that it is most likely German and made by SIEMENS. Is it an aircraft gun camera, an artillery aiming device? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Can you post some additional pics. Ideally the front face and the rear connector panel. Cheers.

I have no idea what that device is on top of the camera, but I think it may be a light of some sort. At first I thought maybe it was an aiming device, but I think you're right that it is a light. As for the "Ausf.", that is the only data plate I see on the whole thing, apart from the little dials/gauges, it's the only information on there, so you know as much as I do.

I have seen the camera before, although not in as good condition. You will know that its a 16mm camera with a 36v motor attached. Its based on a Siemens & Halske and I think the top attachment (with lens) is actually a light source. I imagine that the rear of the attachment comes away from the body and will have a bulb.
I came across a close pic http://www.xs4all.nl/~wichm/siemenskrieg2.jpg (http://www.xs4all.nl/%7Ewichm/siemenskrieg2.jpg) but there isnt much information. It may be worth contacting Siemens and asking for their help.
Just to add, the reason I dont think its an aircraft gun camera is that it isnt robust enough. Ther will probably be mounting points on the base. The electrical connector on the back will probably be +36v, Return (or negative) and a control for starting and stopping the motor on command. It may well have been mounted on some vehicle much like Linedoggies pic shows.

Great! thanks to all for your help. So it appears to be a general purpose army camera, used for filming action? Propaganda? Perhaps a little of everything? I did notice that the film canister show about 5 meters of film exposed, I doubt after all these years there's anything left on it to develope.

Take it to a local university's media department, maybe they can provide a way of determining
1- Can it be developed
2- Is it worth developing
who knows, there may be footage of SS-Fallschirmjager with Stg44 with Vampire sights & Leibermuster Jumpsmocks on it :)

yeah really try to get the film developed....my brother found an old camera stored in the garage of my folks tha thad film that was 30+ years old (black and white) and he took it and it did come out...a little bad around the edges, but you could easily tell what was what and who was who. so take heart.

It´s not Ausführung it´s "Ausl." meaning Auslöser=trigger or activator in this case I would say remotetrigger.
The plate shows which pins to be plugged in: plus ?6, minus, trigger.
Someone above mentioned 36V.
Not so usual for power supply.

Yeah, definetly try to get it developed if you can. A university would probably be more than happy to do it for free just out of historical curiosity. Would love to see any photos that may have been taken.
