Never saw before red-crosses that could fly alone, only these with a little help:

Well, it's quite peculiar.

Hey DE6,
Is there a larger, complete version of this anywhere?

Btw, the S-300/400 system was designed to down the US E-3 wasn't it?
I wonder what the future may hold for lasers vs aircraft. Is the laser of the AL-1 powerful enough to down an aircraft?

You're both wrong. The Tomcat is already being phased out of Navy service.
By the time this thing gets into the air (if it does at all) we'll be using F/A-18Gs and F/A-35Cs

I wonder who the Chinese stole this aircraft design from, as per the many other threads on this site over the past few weeks we all know that the chiese steal everyone else's designs. They have yet to come up with one of their own. This jet seems really cool so I would like to see this one in action, it's just a shame that it is owned by a potential and probable (someday) enemy.

in 11 years that airframe will be outdated.
You mean like the B52 airframe, or the C130 airframe, or the C5 airframe, or the IL76 airframe?

Actually, the design here shows the fear the Chinese government has of its first and second echelon of fighter cover being penetrated by superior aircraft and tactics.
Thus they arm their "AWACS" with missiles for self-defense...on the off chance it has a shot.
Next, they are going to start floating battleships and place a huge spinal mount energy weapon on it....errr...wait...that was the Japanese.
:D

The plane has an innovative design to land on air-to-air missles instead of the convential method of tires.
In 11 years, the USA will no longer need airplanes.
We will have a race of shape shifters cloned and stored for combat.

Actually I'm thinking it would be useful for the following role:
*"Air-bridge" killer....
think 21st Century version of a German pocket battleship..instead of killing merchant vessels.......
you kill cargo airlifters....
standing-off outside the range of Taiwan's internal air-defense interceptors and Patriot SAMs.....
with the ability to self-protect against the odd Taiwanese interceptor that gets with 100 miles.

this reaks of bs.
That thing would barely be able to fly, more or less carry missiles...
With all that weight the wings would probably crack.
2 engines and missiles on wings meant to carry a single engine...

It would be more pratical for an aircraft to focus on single task only, tasks such as AEW and air superiority/dominance should be given to different aircrafts in order to perform them more efficiently. Weapon system such as the airborne laser is only good for destroying ICBMs/TBMs(during launch phase), but when it comes to destroying small and highly maneuverable targets such as fighters, incoming AAMs or even ground targets, not only it is untested and certainly it's not designed for those purposes.

Finally Someone who think :)..
That plane is anti Awacs anti- C4 planes etc. Oh and BTW SM-2, Patrion don't have 300km range.

Well think of it this way. The United States has successful shot down a kinetic SABOT tank round with another tank through the use of a gun slaved to a radar and high speed super computer...
Considering a tank round travels MUCH faster than a missile I think the possibilities of being able to shoot down a plane or missile from an air based laser platform is quite possible.
That is not to say it is still not a decades away, but it certainly is not science fiction.
