From Obama's speech (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/22/20090330/tbs-uk-autos-obama-remarks-sb-03c9bed.html) today on GM and Chrystler

GOVERNMENT WARRANTY

It is my hope that the steps I am announcing today will go a long way towards answering many of the questions people may have about the future of GM and Chrysler. But just in case there are still nagging doubts, let me say it as plainly as I can -- if you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired, just like always. Your warrantee will be safe.

In fact, it will be safer than it's ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warrantee.

Presented without comment because I'm speechless....

I'm assuming this only comes into affect should GM go bust?

Maybe not should, but could like any other business. Someone else will buy it and will produce cars or not. It wouldn't be the end of the world.

GM is too big to go bust. GM must to survive to support its products and down size itself to a sustainable level. Right now, its supporting labor welfare that eats up its money.
Well we can say GM is just like any other business where one goes up and should come down. Its an american icon needs to be save.

Should have gone into bankruptcy court in September of 2008. They'd be on the road to recovery already.

Instead we got the moron-in-chief giving them even more money just to stay afloat.

Isn't this like the last chance for GM

Oh and Obama made a phone call to fire GM CEO today. What's next? Nationalisation? :)
