Awsome pics man. The Ak is really sweet. Russians know how to make soemthing durable. Now, how does the Bizon work?, i can never figure that out. And i was waching the History channel and they said that their are over 200 diffrent AK varients that have been made, but only the main ones sell, is that true?.

Excellent pics everyone.

Question though if someone can answer. I read that Russians never sighted in there Ak's and left the adjustments to the manufacturer. They always shot up and to the left to compinsate for this, is there any other country that doesnt adjust there sights that use's an Ak variant? Or is this just a Russian thing?

That 60-rounds mag seems to be good idea. High firepower.
My only concern is about mag spring.
My friend who was in Iraq with the first group of our guys told me that M4/M16 mag springs had tendency to weaken when loaded with full ammo (causing some mulfunction while firing) especially in the warm Iraq climate. Some GROM dude told him that and warned him to reload the ammo from the mag every night to relieve the mag spring. Of course when You're out in the field on patrol or sth you don't have possibility to do that plus you have to have your mags loaded and ready.
That spring-problem goes with M4/M16 family. My friend told me that their Beryl mags didn't have that problem and they had their mags fully loaded all the time.
With 30 rounds it's not much of a problem but I wonder how it goes with 60 pieces?

Here (http://simondog.com/Vlad/60rnds.avi) Permskii dumps the 60 round mag.

How new is the 60rnd mag? Do you expect it will become widely used by OMON (and other spetsnaz units?) Or did they have it there as a novelty?

I've seen lots of taped double-mags in use in Chechnya photos.

*edit* since this thread is about Russian weapons, I was just browsing ITAR-TASS photo database and found this from this year:

That spring-problem goes with M4/M16 family. My friend told me that their Beryl mags didn't have that problem and they had their mags fully loaded all the time.

The M16 uses mags of a rather different design. Note they are smaller and more compact... this means there is less room for the spring I guess.

ON the AK series mags there is a rather large area for the spring and I have never had any problems with ammo stored in the mags for a week during a long hunt. (It is safer and easier to have all my ammo in my mags rather than loose in pouches or in boxes or belt loops... I can unload my weapon simply by removing the mag at the end of the day... Note I don't chamber a round till I see what I am hunting... I am only hunting and there is no one shooting back at me so I don't need it to be ready to fire instantly. I have missed a few animals with this safety procedure but have never had any accidents either).

With the wider mags for the 60 round mags I would expect more room for a wider spring.

I have seen pictures of these 60 round mags a few years ago but I think they are post 2000 in design.

They are not a new idea as a SMG called the Spectre also used double stacking to carry about 60 SMG rounds in a small package.

Question though if someone can answer. I read that Russians never sighted in there Ak's and left the adjustments to the manufacturer.

As far as I know the rifles were zeroed with a special zeroing tool that was not issued to individual soldiers. They had a tool in their cleaning kit to raise or lower the front sight post so they could adjust that, but they didn't get a drift tool. This suggests to me that they were zeroed before they were issued and could be adjusted vertically by the soldier in the field but any horizontal inaccuracies could not be adjusted for.

The RPK and RPK-74 LMGs did have windage adjustment however as did SVDs and PKs.

It's worth noting that the 60rnd mag is pretty heavy, but is considerably lighter than the 50rnd drum for the AKM.

Are those pics from VBS1 or Flashpoint? If its Flashpoint, which mod, it looks pretty well made. I help out over at Ballistic Addons occasionally but not had the chance to test any new stuff for quite a while

Pictures of the AK family of weapons is all well and good, but no tribute to Russian firearms design would be complete without the following great weapons:

FDF site has "borrowed" it from a first Chechen war photo gallery, and I am 100% sure ;)
