I'm not a fan of this project but here are some pics I found on the net (armietiro.it)
barrels shown are 12 and 16 inch; the rifle has ambi safety & mag release ( 3 buttons: left righe and bottom) and the quick barrel change feature.

Interesting, this is 2nd generation of Beretta ARX-160 assault rifle (i.e. first production batch, not prototype).

i don't like the design, it comes to late on the market, the other comparable models have already started serial production while on thise rifle there is no finalized design and it's unclear if it will bought due to budget costrains...

i don't like the design, it comes to late on the marketI cannot understand your point, the ARX-160 is not too late, and has some features that competitors don't have (for example fast barrel change). The 2nd generation rifle looks polished and well thought out, compares to the prototypes I had contact with.

it's not clear if this is the definitve version, but probably not, as it does not incorporates any part of the italian future soldier, for what it has been designed. the major client will be the italian army, but due to budget costrains, it seems unlikely that it will be acquired in the next time in relevant numbers. further it has never been cleared if any part of the rifle (aside the gl which is beeing trialed in a-stan) has ever been subjected to a field evaluation of any relevance...

I agree with zema...
we dont even have the money for the paper in our offices... how could we get a new rifle?
IMO it was better to improve the SC70/90 with better/newer materials or just buy what other countries are testing.

for example last year the army requested 70 millions for fuel and ammo for large scale exercises, the got zero, the budget allocated only 2 million for ammo on battalion scale exercises. to bring such a system to the market your need a launch customer (mostly the country of origin), italy has often lacked in this role, and the products (even promising ones) fell through.
this programm has many thing in common with the ariete/dardo/freccia programmes, when they arrive on the market, the request is alreday fullfilled and there will be no sales further than the limited ones to the national armed forces, or they are already obsolete and cannot compete with other products...

Is the Italian army going to adopt it?The pictures show the adopted version. Italian MoD purchased the first batch 1 600 assault rifles for expeditional forces (ISAF etc.).

it's not clear if this is the definitve versionIn my opinion it is the first production batch ARX 160s. I have examined some prototypes and they introduced in this model all of the changes the soldiers from Italian infantry school told me.
as it does not incorporates any part of the italian future soldier, for what it has been designed.I do not agree. The weapon itself exist independently of the Soldato Futuro program. Now, Beretta have got quite interesting and modern assault rifre, which can be compared with no shame to the SCAR.
the major client will be the italian army, but due to budget costrains, it seems unlikely that it will be acquired in the next time in relevant numbers. That's right, but crisis is not everlasting, and Italian army needs a new assault rifle.
further it has never been cleared if any part of the rifle (...) has ever been subjected to a field evaluation of any relevance...It was. They shot over half a million rounds through the prototype rifles.

I dont think we need a new rifle (I'm talking about standard troops not SF).
the SC is built with crappy material but it works very well...I still think the ARX is a waste of money at the moment and wont replace the SC anytime soon....we have so many problem thet need to be fixed before...
I we really want a new/better rifle we should simply save R&D money and buy something from a foregin country.

the weapon was concieved for the soldato futuro.

yes but there are lacking money (aside from the crisis, it was the same before the crisi) for fuel and training and they should introduce a new weapon...

I dont think we need a new rifle (I'm talking about standard troops not SF). the SC is built with crappy material but it works very wellThere is a huge problem with mass of the soldier's equipement, weapon and ammunition. The idea of the future soldier is also focused on this aspect of the warfare. I cannot understand why you complain, when now Beretta introduced a new, modern assault rifle, which is comparable to the best models in the world. Yes, there were a lots of problems with prototypes linked with reliability, but I think all of them are solved now.
I still think the ARX is a waste of money at the moment and wont replace the SC anytime soonThe ARX 160 is an option, objective assault rifle, and the new model of weapon has never replaced any older in short time. That's the way military industry and army works.
I we really want a new/better rifle we should simply save R&D money and buy something from a foregin country. But why? The R&D works accelerate Italian industry as well as engineers designs. The research and developements are always good for a country, even if the product itself will be not purchased, becouse they created new solutions.
What type on sight has the Italian Army opted for with the ARX160 ?

Looks interesting, very close to the Magpul Masada.
I like the look of it. They should have been the first NATO country to adopt a 6.8mm rifle. :)
Glad to hear it is now working as last year I read that the troops who were testing it were dissatisfied with it and implementation of the new rifle was in doubt.

Wow hardly any kickback, it seems really accurate.
I know their field testing the rifle in afghanistan any news on how its performing?

Highly interested in this rifle.
Beretta needs to do compliance parts here in the U.S. and put the AXR on the civilian market in semi-auto only legal 16" barrel length configuration ASAP. Be nice to see it revealed at SHOT 2010. Beat the Remington/Bushmaster ACR to market.
Polymer lower. What about the upper receiver it looks polymer as well. Not crazy about polymer uppers.
Gas piston I'm guessing. Short stroke gas piston? Is the gas pressure adjustable?
Looks very pretty. Love the idea of the quick change barrel and switchable ejection. Great features.
