Security forces are said to be combing the area in search of the assailant.

Channel 2 reported on Thursday that the assailant is an Arab laborer armed with an axe. Bat Ayin is situated in the Etzion bloc of settlements south of Jerusalem.

Magen David Adom said on Thursday that one of the victims was a 9-year-old boy who was treated for wounds to his head believed to be the result of an axe assault.

Channel 2 reported that a Palestinian terrorist armed with an axe attacked two Israeli youths, one 16-year-old and the other a 9-year-old, before noon on Thursday. One of the youths was critically wounded in the head. He later died of his injuries, MDA officials said.

Immediately after the attack, a passerby confronted the terrorist and removed the axe from his possession. The terrorist subsequently broke free from the passerby's grasp and fled the scene, according to Channel 2.

Bat Ayin officials said residents in the settlement have been advised to remain in their homes. Security forces in the vicinity have also been advised to remain on high alert, according to Channel 2.

Bat Ayin is a settlement that is not ringed by a security fence, residents told Channel 2

Hamas: Bat Ayin attack a natural response to the occupation

By JPOST.COM STAFF (updates@jpost.com)

The terror attack in the Bat Ayin settlement, in the West Bank, which killed a 13-year-old and injured a 7-year-old boy, was simply a natural response to the Israeli "occupation," a Hamas spokesperson said on Thursday.

"This attack was committed in the framework of the resistance," Ayman Taha said. "This is a reaction to the continuing occupation and the continued building of settlements." "This is a natural reaction," he said, "especially against the backdrop of Israel attacks. We are a people occupied, and it is our right to defend ourselves and to act in every way and with every means at our disposal in order to defend ourselves."

So in Cast Lead Arab civilian casualties were war-crimes but 7 year old Jews are fair game? Where is Peace Now when you need them?p-)

Damn thing!! Here in europe you never hear of such brutal acts in israel. It's sad that all people just scream "WAR", if one grenade of the IDF is touching terorrist ground in a act of self-defense. But if a Hadji is killing in a absolutly act of brutality (as a medic i have seen dead corpse with cut and edge wounds) a young kid...they say "Uh, just a act of defending our property" ... f*** that!!! Thats so stupid!!!

The Palestinazies need to be dealt with serious force.

There is a difference in Palestinians and Terrorists and criminal acts. Don't paint all people in a single brush stroke. The Palestinians are also victims of Hamas, Hezbullah and the rest of the terrorists who control their lands.

Also Rest In Peace and a speedy recovery for the wounded.

'When Checkpoints Come Down, Blood is Spilled'

(IsraelNN.com) Members of Knesset, activists, and grieving residents of Judea said Thursday that a murderous attack in Bat Ayin was made possible by policies that focused on appeasing the Palestinian Authority while ignoring the security needs of local Jews.

"It's been proven again – when checkpoints and junctions are opened to PA traffic, Jewish blood is spilled,” said members of the Gush Etzion-Hevron Regional Council that covers the area in which Bat Ayin is located.

Members of the Development Council of Binyamin and Samaria called the attack “a direct result of the policy of eased restrictions and checkpoint removal led by Defense Minister Ehud Barak.”

Criticism of government policy was heard from within the Knesset. "We've warned for several weeks that removing checkpoints and the policy of easing restrictions for the PA would lead to disaster,” said Ichud Leumi (National Union) MK Michael Ben-Ari.

MK Aryeh Eldad of NU also linked the removal of checkpoints in Judea to the fatal attack. Eldad accused the government of weakening local security details in Judea and Samaria and called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to “explain to the Defense Minister that with the new government comes a new policy regarding Arab terrorism.”

Several Likud MKs voiced criticism of government policy as well. MK Tzipi Hotobelli called on the Likud-led government to “cease the policy of easing security restrictions for Palestinians immediately... and restore security to residents of Judea and Samaria.”

Likud faction head Zeev Elkin said, “The Palestinian terrorist groups are again revealing their true face to the world. Our hearts are with the residents of Gush Etzion at this trying time.”

The attack proves the hypocrisy of terrorists who complain about Israel, Elkin said. “Whoever sends a terrorist with an axe in his hand to murder innocent children shouldn't come and preach to us in the name of justice and peace,” he said.

Residents of Judea called to “restore Jewish deterrence by taking a tough approach to Arab terrorism.” They also warned against opening junctions in the Hevron region that are scheduled to be opened to PA traffic in the upcoming days.

Don't put it like the Hamas and other terror groups in the west bank and gaza strip are consider extrimst by the palstinains.

Hamas elected by the pasltianins in Gaza strip, terrorists consider as heros in the palstinains society, if you ever vistied a palstianian city you whould see posters with terrorists posing to camera all over the city.

the difference between the Israelis and the Palstinains is to great, therefore i can't see any peace soon, or never. this is the facts.

Cleared for publication: Bat Ayin terrorist arrested

West Bank resident, 26, admits to attacking and killing 13-year-old boy at Gush Etzion settlement in early April, says he carried out attack for religious reasons, wanted to die as a 'shahid' Efrat Weiss Published: 04.26.09, 12:11 / Israel News (http://www.ynetnews.com/home/0,7340,L-3082,00.html)

It has been cleared for publication that the Shin Bet, together with the Israel Defense Forces and Border Guard, arrested about two weeks ago a West Bank resident who admitted to carrying out an axe attack in the Gush Eztion community of Bat Ayin at the beginning of the month.

Thirteen-year-old Shlomo Nativ was murdered in the attack, and a seven-year-old boy was lightly injured.

Following the attack, the IDF launched an extensive search of the area and asked all residents to remain in their homes.

The suspect, 26-year-old Moussa Tit, said he carried out the attack for religious reasons and wanted to die as a martyr.

Good Job!
