World body orders ban on Zimbabwe diamonds
Apr 3 09:28 AM US/Eastern

The global diamond certification body on Friday ordered a ban on trade in diamonds from eastern Zimbabwe over concerns about human rights violations. President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, Avi Paz said the decision to ban the Zimbabwe diamonds follows reports of violations of the Kimberly Process -- a system meant to prevent trade in conflict diamonds.

The ban affects only the Marange deposits in eastern Zimbabwe, where local media have reported of forced evictions of small-scale miners.

"The WFDB and its membership worldwide are committed to do all it can to prevent conflict diamonds from Zimbabwe or from any other source for that matter to be traded by our members," Paz said in a statement.

The group only allows its member bourses to trade in diamonds that are accompanied by a Kimberly Process certificate, meant to guarantee that the gems are not fuelling conflicts.Article continued at http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.1797110d3c6b6db862eec7104faf9775.391&show_article=1&catnum=0

Consider De Beers of SA hold such a tight strangle hold on Diamond market in general ..

Any outsider doesn't really have a look in ... also

And having read it fails to mention whom is responsible for the evictions ..

Mugabe's rule is another mark against the West, supposed protectors of the weak, etc. They did more to vilify Ian Smith because of their white-guilt than to a man who actively wanted to hurt people and openly spoke of his hatred towards whites and actively had 20,000 (at least) of his own countrymen killed in tribal genocide.

And having read it fails to mention whom is responsible for the evictions ..There are a few smaller mining companies that throw caution and morals to the wind one of those operators is Beny Steinmetz who has also been known to be a bit heavy handed. Israel, UK and India seem to be the main outlets for blood diamonds my brother is in the game and has been offered diamonds of a dubious source on more than a few occasions.
