The Black Sea is north of Turkey. It's nowhere near Somalia.

Please tell me the name comes from something besides "there were lots of black people in Somalia."

The battle of Mogadishu, sometimes called "the Battle of the Black Sea" was named after the neighborhood in which most of the fighting occurred.

The Battle of Mogadishu has also been called "The Battle of the Black Sea" by the United States and United Nation. In Somalia, the 3rd of October is referred to as "The Day of the Rangers".

edit: "Black Sea” is a local term for the Bakara Market region in Mogadishu, where the ‘93 action took place:

All right, thanks. That makes me feel better. I just couldn't figure the term out, and I was hoping it wasn't referring to a "sea of black people" or anything like that.
