You must mean the authenticity of this vintage weapon. Otherwise there is the M14 SOPMOD (http://www.gun-world.net/USA/m14m21/sopmod-m14.htm) ....

The specwarfare.net site lists that item as being a 'rare' US Navy SEAL sniper type that was forwarded by a collector ...

The Italian's replaced their BM-59's with AR-70's, back in the 1980's right?

As for the BM-59 in US use, I know the US Navy SEAL's used them. (I am not sure if they were direct Italian BM-59's or M-1A1 Springfield models.) That was in the late 1980's, early 1990's. They now use the KAC MK-11 Mod-0.

mixed bag with the mk-11. the m14 remains in use, probly still gets used more often then the kac. the kac was designed for a little different role then the m14 fills.

mk11 has proven to be more reliable than m14 in over the beach operations.

Does the stock fold so the rifle can be packed into the AO easier? I imaginge during long range recon, a folding stock would allow the operator to have his automatic in hand without taking up much room in/on the pack...

Didn't this get replaced cos it was too heavy and it got over-heated?

It is an Italian-made BM 59, as many have pointed out. It is possible to fit a BM 59 folding stock to a M1A or M14, if so desired.

The United States Army did plan a folding stock version of the M14, designated the M14E1. It was to be issued to paratroopers and vehicle crewmen, and others who would need a rifle shorter than the issued M14. It was cancelled in 1963, due to delay in production of the normal M14 it would have caused. By that time, the M16 was also on the scene.

That version of the M14 was designed for paratroopers.

Oddly enough I was talking to my gunsmith about M1 Carbines and the folding stock para versions.

A goodly amount of them that you see on the market today are conversions done post WW 2 or Korea and while cool in their own right do not in any way warrant a high sale price.

Same goes for the old wood folding stock M14s...so, if any of you are looking to pick one of these up for curio-relic purposes make sure its the real deal.

Are you sure thats a scout? normally scouts have shorter barrels unless they're calling it a scout because of the folding stock. /shrug

either way I'd love to get one of those stocks
