Pacifist group claims it set Dresden army fire
An anti-war group on Wednesday claimed responsibility for an arson attack on a Dresden army barracks which destroyed several planes, a hangar and 42 cars, buses and trucks over the holiday weekend.

The unknown group, calling itself “Initiative for a New Shock,” sent a letter to the regional television station MDR on Wednesday, saying it had set the fire.
“If you do not disarm, we will do it,” the note said. “In order to make inhumane instruments of war unusable, we simply set them on fire.”
Investigators from the Saxony state criminal office (LKA) are examining the note.
They have already pointed to left wingers as possible culprits, saying the methods would fit what they know about such extremists.
No one was injured in the Sunday night fire which caused around €3 million in damages.
The perpetrators had to climb a fence more than two metres high and cut the electric security wire above, LKA spokesperson Silvaine Reiche said, adding that the attack was well organised. :| Who's gonna pay for it? Tax payers of course.
Pacifists who use violence. Oh the irony.

I thought it was some old event at first but apparently it happened recently.
What kind of planes were destroyed? "Only" €3 million in damages points to some kind of basic propeller planes?
Pacifists who use violence. Oh the irony.
I don't see the problem. From Wikipedia:
Some pacifists, however, support physical violence for emergency defense of self or others. Others support destruction of property in such emergencies or for conducting symbolic acts of resistance like pouring red paint to represent blood on the outside of military recruiting offices or entering air force bases and hammering on military aircraft.

here are pics and a vid (in German)
I'm absolutely sick by the coverage of some parts of the German press trying to make these guys look harmless and calling it a "noble cause" like the "TAZ" newspaper did. During the past two years leftist and pacifist groups have committed litterally hundreds of arsons all over Berlin and some other cities too.
Last year a group affiliated to the "Initiative für ein neues blaues Wunder" torched a Berlin mansion under construction work and two workers sustained horrible burnings. Nobody gave a rats ass because the client was a Bonze.
Arson is arson regardless of the motive.

I agree - it defeats the purpose. But these guys sound more like anarchists than pacifists. There's no gain from arson and there's certainly no sense in sabotaging your own country's defense assets. If you disagree with the policies then civil disobedience and legal challenges and of course elections are the civilised way to voice dissent.

Note: The army barracks were guarded by a civilian security company (no uncommon practice here ).

International practice.
Like US Airfield in XXX, where 1,55m security women are equipped with Desert Eagles?

No
But sleeping recruits aren't that better.
Private security seems to be better cos they fear to lose the job. (My experience)
But we can talk about qualification to do the job.

True...
Are the civilian guards armed? Or are they the same guys who protect factories etc.?

Anyone attacking a military installation should be dealt with lethally by the authorities/guards.
If someone dies from this arson attack, the perpitrators should be charged with murder.

armed. But I don't know about training, perhaps a joint military/civil program. In our barracks we had MP units always ready so I didn't care about security.

They are equipped with P8 pistols. I don't think they are very well trained at all. Mostly older guys who are not that physically able.

Wait, what? Are trucks and cars "inhumane instruments of war"? :|

I take it these assholes don't really care about all of the toxins that were spewed forth from lighting these objects on fire, idiots.
