I just went to my local sports shop and they have some wasr 10 rifles in stock. One Russian with regular stock and two hungarians with folders. They are on sale for around $550 - $650 and they have 2 hi cap mags each. They also have wolf 7.62 ammo at 7.49/20 or 500 for 149.00. The sale ends tonight, but I don't know if I should get the Hungarian or the Russian, too bad I didn't ask if they were stamped or forged.

I've had a Romanian WASR for about nine years now, and it's been a good rifle. I was not aware that there are WASRs from Hungary and Russia as well.

$550-$650 seems like a reasonable asking price, especially considering the current climate of gun control/confiscation hysteria.

My guess is that they're stamped (AKM vs. forged AK-47-style).
I have a fixed-stock AK (the WASR), and two folders (a Polish under-folder and a Romanian side-folder), and if I were to have just one AK, I'd opt for a fixed-stock.

Get the folder, they have beeter resale value, and frankly folder just look plan more evil. Stock up on the ammo too because those are decent prices and you're even in a better position because you don't have to pay outragous shipping and handling.

Mags come later as they run around $15-$20 each. Stick with metal ones (Avoid tapco/Promag like hot potatoes). Metal Yugo and Hungarian 30 rounders are probably the best ones to get.

Post pics when you bring the baby home.:)

We sell them for $549 too, regular price. They've gone way up, they were going for $400 just a few months ago, and then $449 last month.
We got an Arsenal in the other day, those things are nice, pricey though, used $999.

I suppose it all depends on what you want the rifle for. If you want to look "more evil" with it, or plan to sell it for "beeter resale value", then I suppose you should go ahead and buy the folder, as Gottberg suggests. But if you want a more stable firing platform, for better accuracy, I suggest the fixed stock.
I'm just going by my experience as an owner of three AKs, with three types of stocks, for what it's worth. In the end, get what's more comfortable for you.

I waited too long, just like when SKS were under $200, now I can't touch a Chinese one for under $499. I think I'll spend my money on pimping my Bushy. I want a Troy DI rail, a Eotech Sight, Gold trigger, JP Bennie Cooley comp, etc. etc.

Hopefully, some more will turn up, 62Echo. You might try looking in the "Equipment Exchange" section of AR15.com. Perhaps there might be someone near you who wants to part with their AK.
