No, the XM307/XM312 is a product of General Dynamics Land Division if I remember correctly.

You are quite right about that, its the barrel that has changed.
I heard that the OCSW can be converted to the M312 .50 cal machinegun system or the
M307 25mm grenade machinegun system just by changing the barrel. Sounds hard to
believe though, the gun body shown in the pics looks pretty much the same as the 25mm
machinegun version.

The XM307 is chambered in the new 25mm cartidge, but the XM312, which has something like a 70%+ parts commonality is chambered in .50 BMG. My theory, shared by a certain level of detractors of many of the Army's new small arms programs, feel that the XM312 is essentially an admission of the possibility that the new 25mm cartridge could be a flop and that they're trying to have something to show for all the money and effort spent on the OSCW. However, there is also the very realistic issue that they'd like to field the XM312 first and have a more gradual changeover. However, seeing as the M2HB and M2HBQCB have served without complaint and with distinction for what is now over 80 years (probably the only thing in inventory to have such a distinguished service record), I really see little need for a replacement system.

Yea, the M-2 is tried and true! I would say, the purpose of this weapon is lightweight-minded! Not as bulky as the M-2HB or HQCB. Everything is getting lighter and modular. Why not the .50 caliber?
i wasnt confused about the .50bmg round, i know it can fire that, but he said 30mm brother. so i thought he ment 30mm instead of 25mm
