Wiretap scandal of leading Democrat 'who lobbied for Israeli spies'
A prominent Democratic Congresswoman was embroiled last night in a growing scandal involving government wiretaps and her relationship with two alleged Israeli spies.
Jane Harman, a California Democrat with long involvement in US intelligence matters, was allegedly recorded by a Bush administration wiretap promising an Israeli agent that she would intervene on behalf of two pro-Israel lobbyists charged in the US with spying.
In return for pledging to use her influence to get the charges against the two men reduced, Ms Harman, a pro-Israeli hawk, was allegedly told by the unidentified agent that he would put pressure on senior Democrats to get her appointed to a top Congressional intelligence post.
Allegations that Ms Harman had inappropriately used her influence to aid the two employees of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the powerful Israeli lobby group, surfaced in 2006.Looks like Ms Harman overstretched herself a little here.:)

You are on roll lately, aren't you? That thread about Yemen Jews was a nice touch. You need to be more subtle to make it work though.

Groups like AIPAC should be banned, they should not have a right to influence and corrupt public officials.

Tsk tsk, we should know better than to wiretap our betters. Such methods should be reserved only for the great unwashed - in order to keep them in line.

+1 on that.
If she's smart, and it doesn't sound like she is, she should call John Mertha (sp?) and get his advise on how to take a bribe then talk your way out of it all while calling your voters red necks and hillbillies.

No fear, she got out just fine

The story suggests that the tapes show Harman crossed the line.
And the gears were in motion to open a full blown investigation.
But then Alberto Gonzales intervened and shutdown the whole thing.
Caught on an NSA wiretap, Congressperson is saved, so as to defend NSA wiretapping.
Which one of these revelations is the worst?
I can't think of a name

Pelosi was briefed about the Wire Taps. So Harmon's defense about a "NSA run amock" is full of crap. They had a warrant and let congress know.
However Bacilluspolymyxa (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=2341) seems pretty interested in the "EVIL ISRAELI Lobby1!1!1". Have you found the Protocols of the Elders of Zion" yet?

I'm not up to speed with what's going on in Yemen.......but that would be irrelevent to this thread.
What IS relevant to this thread is(based on the article) the possibility a senior elected politician was compromised by a foreign intelligence service and offered assistance with gaining a more senior intelligence oversight leadership position for the elected politician in exchange for assisting two individuals charged with spying for the same foreign power.
That's my understanding of the article and the situation.
Those allegations smell like treason, NOT anti-semetism.
Unwarranted accusations of anti-semetism should be left for the lazy and the ignorant.

So you're saying it's NOT OK to debate special interest corruption in the political process?
How about elected legislators allegedly dealing with a foreign intelligence service?
Or are you saying it IS OK, just as long as it's not related to Israel?
Please clarify................
I don't know Bacilluspolymyxa from a hole in the wall.......as I have a life outside of here I think I recall us being on opposite sides of a few arguments.....can't remember....don't really care.
But it smells a bit like a subtle dogpile.....is it warranted in other threads? I have no idea.....
Is it warranted here?
Doesn't look like it to me.
For the record, I think the greatest threat facing US democracy today is special interest corruption....we're certainly seeing it with the financial crisis.
I think pretty much every major issue the US is dealing with today, both domestically and internationally, can be traced to special interest corruption directly or indirectly.
That includes the Israeli Lobby....one of MANY nasty turds subverting democracy....if you think it's OK for a foreign power to aggressively interfere in US domestic affairs directly or by proxy just because they have hot women in their army then I feel sorry for you.
In this instance it would appear to include a nasty threesome between an elected US politician, AIPAC, and Israeli Intelligence?
Where exactly does one go from being a pissed off individual to being a nasty anti-semetic?
If we exchange AIPAC and Israeli Intelligence for a cushy Saudi oil money funded, post political life semi-retirement jobby jobby for other elected toads does that turn me into a Pro-Israeli, Muslim hater?
Maybe THINK before you drop an anti-semetic bomb.
