Errr couple of hundred years too late, the British anhilliated most of our culture in the 1700-1800s, there are only about 30,000 people left who speak Ireland as a day to day language.
Also then "neutral" America had no interest in the Irish independence movement since they had yet to heal the wounds of 1812.
Its largely thanks to the British (and the 70,000 Allied soldiers that came from the republic alone (then known as the free state) that we aren't speaking German now, or worse.
Incidentally our shameful neutrality during that just war wasn't about cowardice, it was about consolidating the bigoted politcial power of the De Valera government

- a particularly sad episode in UK/Irish relations - mostly due to the 3'bs - beuracracy, bigotry and bloody-mindedness on our part. Yeah I saw that. I used to think Frank Skinner was funny, but now I realise hes just a knob head, he'd most likely argue that it was just a joke but I think it was slightlt rasist. You'd think Badeal(sp) would know better him being Jewish and all.

It was in my home town, their were 5 time's more cop's then protester' alot of whom were American's, came for the Guinness stayed for the local festivities ;)
