FW: Going around the 2nd amendment?
I don’t even know where to start on this one, but I felt that every one of you needed to hear about this as soon as possible and to fire up that grass roots thing that we do so well. Start making phone calls and sending emails to every one of your state senators and congressmen on this one before the Oboma machine rams it through before anyone can look at it. We need to do this NOW!
Go to the Gun Owners of America web site (GOA) http://gunowners.org/ (http://gunowners.org/) and click on the link for Alerts in the upper left hand corner and start reading! Oboma wants to slip one past congress, the senate, and us! He wants to sign a “Treaty” with Mexico called “Inter-American Convention Against Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammo, Explosives and other related materials”. I can’t explain it all here, but follow the links and read it for yourself.
That’s right, no more reloading ammo, repairing or building a rifle from a kit, modifying any firearm, etc. without a Federal license! Not even an air gun. Under the threat of prosecution for violating a federal law.
Now get busy spreading the word and contacting your Congressmen and Senators

Do you have a problem with spelling?

When I read this, I immediately started digging into my carpeted floor with my bare hands. As my fingernails came off, and the blood started to flow I paused for a second to inspect my progress on my "instant Obama fallout shelter." Then I just realized that one of the old NRA ladies had tracked me down online, and meant business when she asked me for yet another donation on the phone the other day. Silly scary NRA grandma'! You got me! HA-HA! Checks in the mail!

In Reid v. Covert (not sure about spelling) it was determined that no treaty may undermine or supercede the authority of the Constitution (the 2nd Amendment, as this case goes).
Unfortunately, my understand would be that the ruling would only hold weight if it could be officially established that these restrictions would indeed be infringements upon the 2nd Amendment right to arms which is acknowledged and protected by our Constitution.
Hopefully some of our members more knowledgable about legalese and legalities could better explain this.
Very interesting, indeed.
P.S.
You misspelled Obama (eh, Budgie beat me to it).

No surprise there.
It really gets my goat when they hammer the point that these guns come from the United States. What makes you think that these drug dealers got these weapons legally? Banning them won't do a thing.

from what i get from it, basically they want to make it harder for people to buy guns, ban "assault rifles", ban reloading and all of that fun stuff because of the whole Mexico situation. Really I just think Obama was looking for something this whole time and he got it. Its a shame really... they cant take away the 2nd, so they take away everything that makes the 2nd.

"The NRA is well aware of the proposed Organization of American States treaty on firearms trafficking, known by its Spanish initials as CIFTA. The NRA monitored the development of this treaty from its earliest days, but contrary to news reports today, the NRA did not "participate" at the meeting where the treaty was approved.
The treaty does include language suggesting that it is not intended to restrict "lawful ownership and use" of firearms . Despite those words, the NRA knows that anti-gun advocates will still try to use this treaty to attack gun ownership in the U.S. Therefore, the NRA will continue to vigorously oppose any international effort to restrict the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners."
