A Nazi sniper travels to Stalingrad to find and kill a Russian sharpshooter, the hero of a political officer's propaganda campaign. Based on the true story of Vassili Zaitsev. Adult Situations.
Has anyone seen this? Is it a decent film or bad?

The effects are great, but when I watched it; I felt no character development or at least very little.

worth a watch, just a little overdone.
Judd Law picks up a rifle from the dirt and clocks a bunch of Germans, no sighting in, no spotter shot, just 1,2,3,4,5.........

The movie is ok, but if you want the FULL story, I highly recommend the book. The movie is no comparison to the book at all.

yeah its ok
The movie is ok, but if you want the FULL story, I highly recommend the book. The movie is no comparison to the book at all. What book? All this story is based on the excerpts from the Vassili Chuikov's (of course You know whom was he) book "The battle of the century"... that is no more no less a propagandist memoir where truths are mixed with soviet propaganda ... I bet, the true stroy of Vassili Zaitsev (and other famous russian snipers like Medvedev) would be far more interesting than this... something...
BTW - the movie is worth seeing, but can not be rated as war movie... it's a bloody Hollywood made by French director based on propaganda icon.

This fiml is full of bull****. Uniform and loadout, ranks and behavior of personages ALL are false! The story (I mean book) is mach better!

If you're looking for an accurate/true portrayl of the battle of Stalingrad, don't bother. If you're looking for a realistic portrayl of warfare, you'd probably be better served looking elsewhere. If you're looking for a mildly entertaining war/action movie, then sure, it's a pretty good film.

To add... the movie is a mixture of: truths, soviet propaganda and western prejudices about "stupid" russians/soviets... so it tastes like honey with gasoline... If smb likes it... ;)

Infact , there are books that were written by Zaytsev himself , where he is talking about his life , and about his experience as sniper in Stalingrad - "Sniper notes-After Volga we didn't had land" . So , not all of it is hearsay , but indeed he is overexadurated as a great sniper to propaganda purposes .

What was the deal in giving one soldier a rifle and another ammo?

So when he take gun from dead comrade he will not need to search ammo in dead man's pockets...

I did not like the movie. The action was not much of an entertainment to me. The ending sucked. I would rather see the way real story ended, but that would have made the movie shorter.
Nevertheless, give it a try. You might find yourself liking it more than I did.

Read War of the Rats (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/055358135X/103-3652316-9303037?v=glance)
Some will argue the historical accuracy of the characters, but it's really a great read nonetheless. :D

I don't understand why the german sniper lets himself get killed in the end.
What are the specific historical inaccuracies in EATG other than a general Rambo-feeling?
Sorry, I'm not an expert.
